What a joke this team has become. And Haase needs serious scrutiny after losing the last five games of the season in ignominious fashion. Is he really the person to bring Cardinal basketball out of the wilderness? Far from clear to me. All the good will and expectations this team built up have been squandered. Bleak indeed.

I'm not sure any coach or assistant in D1 would take this job.

Surely Davis is not coming back for his extra year of eligibility. I wonder if any other players will leave. I wouldn't blame them.
Hard to believe that Davis, Da Silva, or Williams will be back.

Yeah, I was treating the other two as gone already. I wouldn't be surprised if there were more still.

Really? Why not? Stanford has a niche. Especially the one and dones an G league etc. are expanding.

Again....
I am trying so hard to remind myself that I really believe that Stanford coaches should be fired this year given the COVID-19 challenges and SCC specific protocols, but this particular ending is all too familiar under Haase.
COVID-19 is a major pandemic that has created global hardships, so I don't want to lose sight of that. However, Haase would have lost his job in 2019-2020 if Muir kept with the NCAA or bust approach to keeping Haase last year. COVID-19 probably saved Haase's job last year. And this year has been so frustrating on a number of levels, but the challenges COVID-19 created may save him again here in 2020-2021.

I am frankly baffled as to what happened this year. For a while we were playing well despite no home gym and COVID-19 to worry about. We had some injuries and things looked bleak, but the team played pretty well and got through it. The fans were expecting great things when we got our missing starters back. When we did, the wheels came off. What had appeared to be a team that was united became a mess. It may well be there were issues all along that I (and probably most fans) didn't know about, but it wasn't obvious and they played through it. I hope we get to find out what happened, but I fear that won't happen. Keeping dirty laundry inside the program is a "normal" approach, but this melt down is so serious I think that won't fly.

It appears that a lot of us have seen enough.
If it were up to me, we'd snip the string here, and bring in Joe Pasternack, the Santa Barbara coach. His teams have becom a force in the Big West, and won lots of games.

Perhaps I'm just projecting, but between the doings with Wills and Davis and the listless body language I saw tonight, there must be a lot of unhappiness about what's going on with the team. So I wouldn't be surprised if it happens. Already happened once under Haase.

What was I thinking?
The second half started out on a sour note with O'Connell on the bench for absolutely no good reason. There's no question that Oskar was less than 100%. Still, it was competitive...until it wasn't. I honestly don't know how the team could play so poorly down the stretch, but I guess it starts with a lack of "cohesion" as far as the line-up goes, especially in the backcourt.
Haase lost this team. I believe his indecision on line-ups contributed greatly to whatever turmoil there was behind the scenes. As a fan I was happy to see Davis out there again in a Stanford uniform, so there's that. He had one nice assist to O'Connell on a fast break. Other than that, a complete non-factor.
Does Haase deserve to be fired? I'll only say this, that there are often circumstances where a coach faces adversity that's not of his/her making. But it's always up to the coach how to respond to said adversity, and that's how I hope Haase is judged by the powers that be.

Time to let the weary sleep. This team is tired, hurt, miserable, uninspired, and just plain broken. They aren't having any fun at all out there. Their inability to score is the main thing to fix IMO. You can defend all you want, but it's pretty tough to win these days scoring less than 70 (or in our case less than 60). The dribble hand off/attack offense has become so stale. Spacing is awful, the ball doesn't move at all. Yuk, I'm tired of watching it.
Let's go ladies! :>

Since my kid is practicing for the SAT, I will try analogies:
Dawkins: Haase :: Teevens :
A. Walt Harris
B. Tyrone Willingham
C. Mike Montgomery
D. David Shaw
E. Jim Harbaugh
My point, as it was, is that just because the guy who came after Teevens sucked, doesn't mean it was the wrong call to fire Teevens, just as the fact that just because Haase has been a failure doesn't mean it was the wrong call to fire Dawkins.
Just hoping the analogy continues, and the next guy is the MBB equivalent of Harbaugh.

Actually the next coach was Wlat.
Just to clarify, by "next coach" I meant the coach AFTER Wlat, since I [mis]understood the argument to be that, in order to get to the next good coach [i.e., Harbaugh] after Buddy, we first had to go through the worse coach [Wlat]. From BC's later post re analogies, I was clearly overthinking the earlier riposte.
And, I confess, BC isn't really wrong, although, as bad [or, at least, somewhat-less-than-good] as Dawkins was, I would still submit that his overall coaching career at Stanford ranks higher than Haase's, at least to this point. I'm just a little bemused at how much greater the vitriol here was w/r/t Dawkins compared to what it is now w/r/t Haase.
