RE: Men’s Basketball Schedule - BillBradley - 11-25-2023

Something else stuck out to me that maybe others also noticed. Spencer Jones did not suit for the game but he was on the bench. The announcers said he was sick. I know I'm speculating and I don't have details to support, but it didn't pass the look test for me. Usually if someone is deemed sick, they don't stay around the team. Or maybe they are at the end of the bench away from everyone. But he sat right in the middle. And he did not look sick at all. Smiling, jumping around, clapping. This looked to me like he was held out. He's been hurt and hasn't been playing too well, so maybe the coaches thought it would be the right time to give him a chance to heal up because they could beat NI without him. Wrong! This Stanford team has very minimal depth. With our main guys gassed, we ended up with rotations that had Geeler, Stojakovich, Keefe, Agarwal...yikes. It was ugly.

If the coaches did hold him out, I think that was a big mistake. Jones is a solid defender and rebounder. Even 15 minutes of him at less than 100% would have helped a ton. I also think Spencer looked like he could have played and the kid strikes me as a competitor who would want to be out there for the team, not to sit out because of an upset tummy. Either way, the result is a bunch of tired, sore-bodied players who are wondering why the team leader is sitting out the game. The result was a lackluster effort with zero leadership. That's on the coach.

There is a world where Carlyle plays, along with SJones, Bynum, Angel, Raynaud, MJones as a core 6. Geeler as a fine backup. That's actually pretty solid and they could surprise a lot of teams. Not sure if they have it in them to overcome their coaching though, because he'll still probably play all the other guys!

Didn't watch this game but based on the battle/effort from the first 2+ games,  I assume our guys were just exhausted today?
This was NorthIowa’s 3 rd game in 3 days same as us
To be fair, we played a very late game 2 after a double OT game 1, while they played an earlier game 2. It does not, however, excuse the uncompetitive game.

Nothing excuses such consistently poor results despite far better talent.  As another said, check the two former players and their results with NC.

No Stoja in your alternate world?

What's the status on Carlyle?

Someone said same as Okpala. I recall he missed time at the start of the season, but don't recall the reason he did. Grades? Injury?

Hasn't been very good as of yet. Seems pretty far behind the others especially defensively.

All I've read is "non-injury related".

Someone compared his situation to K.J. Okpala who missed the first 11 games of his freshman year due to academics. So assuming that is true, it's anyone's guess when he will be cleared to play. Perhaps they are waiting to see his Fall Quarter grades?

I can't believe there is a 4 page thread on Stanford WBB's game with Florida State and this is a 3-page thread for the Stanford MBB season?

Muir should be relieved of his duties for this one fact alone.

I know you’re a big fan of WBB, but otherwise your comment could sound sexist (MBB must be ar least as by great as WBB) even though I know otherwise.

If Cardboard attention to a sport should determine the AD’s job status, it is a fickle world. Look how little the Cardboard has had about WSoc and other great teams this year and in past years.

As for me, I tend not to even read the threads where posters seem to try to outdo the others in their bitching.

I dropped in on the broadcast of Thursday’s MBB game and I saw a lot of really good & gutty play by the team.  Wow, I wish our women could hit 3s like that. I thought the team played well together.
