Lots great points on Lepolo.
Another quick one:
I did think she was the best at the responsibility to bring the ball up the court and dish off to someone else.
She seemed more reliable at this than others.
She also made some really good assists.
Though some of her assist credits were a pretty static no-movement pass to a covered big, Cam, Kiki, ... who then created their own great shot out of nothing.

Agree. She was brilliant at times, flashing impressive talent.
Othertimes just seemed to blend in and not really stand out.
If she improves at all like Iriafen did, she could be a key big impact player.

90% of the time "bringing the ball upcourt" per se is routine. What's crucial is how one deals with intense pressure D, a la South Carolina, USC, Texas, Texas A&M, or UCLA. Also crucial is not merely "dishing [the ball] off to someone else" upon arriving in the front court, but being able to make crafty moves that give the ball handler a positional advantage or beat her defender. To these eyes, L often seemed content to escape from pressure, cross the midcourt line and quickly get rid of the ball, like it was a hot potato, to a 2 or a 3. L showed no midrange jumper, a shot that is often open after putting a move on one's defender, getting a step, and being free in the key near the FT line. Almost all of her shots were treys or layups off drives, which she finished irregularly. With respect, I fail to see that L has the speed, athleticism, or handles to be a high-quality point guard at this level, especially now that the team won't have either Brink or Iriafin to dump the ball to down low and bail the O out. I'm surprised to see several posters, especially very knowledgeable BC, express such confidence (although he did hedge with "I think") that L has what it takes to be a successful PG at SU. Needless but obligatory to say, my assessment could be erroneous, but based on what I saw this past season that's the way I see it at this juncture. (Yes, I realize that left alone, L can hit treys at about the 35% level.)

Good post MV but no not routine. 30 second shot clock speed in moving the ball up the court is very important. Lepolo does that very well

Totally agree, Bob. It must have happened, but I don't recall one instance of Lepolo losing the ball while bringing it up to the half court line. Hoping her knee is 100%, and that she has been working on 10 ft jumpers and 3 pointers.

RE: Stanford Women's Basketball 2024-2025 - Vandelay - 06-18-2024

Did anyone else receive the Buck/Cardinal email from "Tara VanDerveer" that was signed off "Tar VanderVeer, All time winningest coach in college basketball history"?

Seems a bit pretentious if you ask me.  I wonder if she actually wrote it or just signed her name to something.

RE: Stanford Women's Basketball 2024-2025 - Hulk01 - 06-18-2024

Plus isn't it redundant to add "All time"?

RE: Stanford Women's Basketball 2024-2025 - 82lsju - 06-18-2024

mine had (GP-1) at the beginning of the email title, I wonder what that means...

Lol.  Mine had (FUT-1).

So trying to decode the prefix, I’m

- a small annual b/c donor
- a football season ticket buyer
- not a WBB season ticket buyer

I have never donated a cent to Buck/Cardinal.  I had Family Plan season tickets for football for several seasons.
But I do like futbol.  Futbol Americano!  Maybe that's why I'm in the FUT-1 group.

if you got today's email, "renewals are wrapping up...the legacy continues,' who is the player featured below kate paye in the photo? (and why don't i recognize her?) oh, wait! is that talana 20 pounds lighter?

RE: Stanford Women's Basketball 2024-2025 - AxeMan89 - 06-24-2024

Not sure if we have a full non-conference schedule out but just got the announcement from Cal - they manage to stay close to home for the whole preseason with most games in Berkeley and away at local schools. Possibility of UA in a tournament but otherwise no ex-PAC schools.

I will be curious to see ours. We know we play AT LSU, and if I remember, we have a return game AT INDIANA (unless postponed or we broke our home and home contract). That's already two plane trips. No Tennessee for the 2nd straight year - that series has ended.

RE: Stanford Women's Basketball 2024-2025 - BobK - 08-15-2024

While we wait for the non-conference schedule to drop; a few more additions

Sunday November 10: Gonzaga at home
Wednesday November 13: UC Davis at home

Plus the previously announced:
Sunday November 17: at Indiana
Thursday December 5: at LSU
Friday December 20: Ohio State at Chase Center

18 conference games
Leaves 6 or so hopefully filler games to complete the schedule. Our schedule will be plenty challenging with an inexperienced returning group.

All those home games. Who do we think we are, UConn?
