Although McNealy sits 8th in the current Ryder Cup standings, unless he wins a big event in the next couple months, McNealy will not be an auto-qualifier, which stop at the top 6. He is pretty far back from #6. Heck, he'd have to jump over Ben Griffin (#7) who has two wins and a runner-up this year and isn't even in the top 6. McNealy's name would go into the Keegan Bradley's hat as a potential captain's pick to fill out the team to it's full complement of 12 players.

Bigger picture, it's go time for Thorbjornsen (#101) and Bramlett (#137) if they want to keep their PGA cards. It's tougher this year, as the cut-off is now Top 100. Bramlett especially needs to play well as he has conditional status and doesn't get into every tournament, so needs to produce some consistent top 20 results when he tees it up. He, Vilips, Rodgers and Salinda are in the Canadian Open field this weekend.

Thorbjornsen is #110 in FedEx points, but as I write this he is alone in first place at -20 at the Detroit Rocket Classic at the Detroit Country Club. He's on the seventh hole.

RE: Men's Golf 2025 - Mick - 06-29-2025

Thorbjornsen finished T4 which should vault him from #110 to #86 in the FedEx point standings. If he stays below 100, he'll earn his tour card for 2026 as bbm noted. McNealy is 11th, Rogers is 59th, Vilips is 73rd, and Salinda is 86th. Bramlett is 140th, and Brandon Wu is 144th.

Thanks for all the news on the Stanford guys.  Great to see McNealy doing so well.  Just wish the guys we have now could at least look like they can move up next year.

Correction:  I misread the Open qualifying info.  Although, Thorbjornsen was in the Top 5 at the Rocket tournament, he is not within the Top 20 of the current FedEx standings. Since both qualifying requirements were necessary to earn an invitation, he missed out.  Darn.

RE: Men's Golf 2025 - Mick - 06-30-2025

The Open has 28 exemption categories, five domestic qualifying events and 10 other qualifying events scattered throughout the world, including the Memorial and Arnold Palmer in the USA.

Maverick McNealy qualified for the Open (he's in the Top 50 OWGR) and is among the 122 currently qualified participants:

I don't see any other Stanford participants. Woods is eligible, but he hasn't entered.

RE: Men's Golf 2025 - Mick - 07-09-2025

This week is the Scottish Open, a well-known tuneup for the British Open and helps golfers from outside of the time zone adjust to the jet lag. McNealy is playing, as are former Stanford golfers Patrick Rodgers, Isaiah Salinda and Karl Vilips. Big field, 156 players. Played at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick Scotland. It is co-sanctioned by the PGA tour and the DP World Tour.

Most interesting part for Stanford fans is that the top three finishers in the Scottish Open who aren't already in the British Open field will earn a spot at the British Open, and there's 80 of those players. So...here's hoping.

The PGA Tour has a mirror event, the ISCO Championship in Kentucky. Stanford alums Brandon Wu and Michael Thorbjornsen are playing in it. Thorbjornsen is listed as "No. 1 player PGA Tour University (current year)." Brandon Wu is lsited as Top 70 on prior season's FedExCup through FedExCup playoffs.

Wow .... Macneally finished tied with some well known names (Current #1: Scotty Scheffler, also T14) and ahead of many others (former #1s: Rory McIlroy, T33; Adam Scott, T49; Justin Thomas, T49)

You go, Maverick!

Right now, Maverick is -1 and on the 9th hole (after a really nice opening 67), which is currently within the cut line. Rodgers is likely out, he's in the clubhouse at +3. Vilips might make it, he's even and on the 7th hole as I write this. Salinda is still on the course, but he's +8, so unlikely to make the cut.

RE: Men's Golf 2025 - Mick - 07-11-2025

Maverick made the cut with one stroke to spare at -2. He tees off in 12 hours at 3:05 a.m. pacific time / 11:05 a.m. local time.

Rodgers (+3), Vilips (+5), Salinda (+8) did not make the cut.

Too bad for our guys, but Golf may well be the hardest game to excel at over a long period of time. It takes no prisoners.

RE: Men's Golf 2025 - Nobadeer - 07-24-2025

Per yahoo sports, Maverick McNealy is one of only 16 golfers to have made the cut in all 4 majors this year. He's currently 11th in the rankings for the Ryder Cup team.

McNealy and five other Stanford golf alums are playing in the TPC 3M Twin Cities Open, one of the eight Signature events on tour. Here's the leaderboard link, optimized to follow Stanford alums (and the one ex-Bronco on tour, sorry):

RE: Men's Golf 2025 - Nobadeer - 08-11-2025

McNealy finished T-28 at this past weekend's FedEx tournament in Memphis. A 74 on Saturday kept him from a top 10 finish.

Per Golf.com, it's up in the air at best for his Ryder Cup chances, even though his finish in Memphis was tied with JT, who is supposedly safely on the roster, and 1 shot behind Xander, who is supposedly a "lock":

"Team USA taking shape.

Let’s tier out the Americans.

Tier 1: ALREADY LOCKS BEFORE MEMPHIS (3)

Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, Xander Schauffele

Tier 2: JUST NEEDED PROOF OF LIFE; NOW THEY’RE IN (5)

J.J. Spaun (second place), Patrick Cantlay (T9), Russell Henley (T17), Collin Morikawa (T22), Justin Thomas (T28)

Tier 3: FINISHED T48 IN MEMPHIS BUT STILL HAS TO BE IN (1)

Harris English

Tier 4: ONE MORE SIGN OF LIFE IN THE NEXT COUPLE WEEKS COULDN’T HURT (1)

Keegan Bradley

Tier 5: TRENDING UP (2)

Cameron Young, Ben Griffin

Tier 6: ON THE OUTSIDE LOOKING IN (5)

Mav McNealy, Sam Burns, Andrew Novak, Chris Gotterup, Jordan Spieth

Ultimately all that chatter amounts to this: You’re skipping past Nos. 11, 12 and 13 on the below list and taking a hot hand (Young) and a proven killer (Cantlay). Up for debate is whether Bradley would like to sacrifice himself in the process…

TEAM USA RYDER CUP RANKINGS
1. Scheffler 2. Schauffele 3. Spaun 4. Henley 5. DeChambeau 6. English 7. Thomas 8. Morikawa 9. Griffin 10. Bradley 11. McNealy 12. Novak 13. Harman 14. Young 15. Cantlay"

RE: Men's Golf 2025 - bbm233 - 08-13-2025

Update on the current team:
We had two players qualify for the Men's US Amateur, which is a great achievement. TK Chantananuwat and Dean Greyserman each teed it up at the Olympic Club this weekend after getting through qualifying earlier in the year. Neither made the cut to get to match play, but just getting to the US Am is a career highlight for any amateur golfer.

Concur, golf has become such a world wide game that there are no "easy" days.

RE: Men's Golf 2025 - Spiny_Norman - 08-13-2025

To the best of my knowledge, Stanford has only one outgoing transfer from last year. Logan Kim (part of the frosh class that was ranked before the season as the top recruiting class in the country) has left Stanford for UCLA. I am not aware of any inbound transfers yet.
