Yeah, let's head back to the Bay Area and ger ready for the butt kicking by SMU next weekend.
This is a depressing season.

I'll have to admit I didn't think it was going to be quite this bad.

I predicted 42-12.  Never thought 42 would be too low.  Looks bad right now.

I predicted 49-12. One of these teams is very motivated.

A sad scene in South Bend.

I see that Ash has completed only 8 passes today through Q3. What's up with that? Too much of a ND pass rush?

#1 pass defense in the country

Meanwhile #4 PNST has rallied to tie USC and send it into overtime on CBS.
Trojans missed, so PNST will play for the FG to win, and escape SoCal.
"Fight on" not enough.

PNST gets the FG, heads for the airport 6-0, leaving Troy at 3-3.
Lincoln Riley could not solve the PNST Defense in OT.

A little schadenfreude never hurts in situations like this.

SC's slim playoff hopes are over now, losing at home in overtime to Penn State. SC is at 3-3 overall, 1-3 in conference, so their conference championship hopes also over too in October.

PSU 33, USC 30. Although PSU got away with 2 pass interference plays that were not called.

Perhaps aided by the inability of our receivers to get decent separation in the time that Ash is upright.

BTW the game has now started up again and it is 49-7. ND could get in the 60's if they so choose.

Hey, we held them under 50. Good job, guys.

What channel is the game on now?

Airing last 5 minutes on CNBC. Great Homecoming weekend for Irish.

Taylor pulled Daniels and substituted Lamson.

RE: FB -- Notre Dame Game Thread - needle - 10-12-2024

Stanford allowed 8 TFLs today, per LiveStats, meaning the team will likely again be next-to-last among all FBS teams in TFLs allowed per game.

Truly, a season defined by negative plays.

RE: FB -- Notre Dame Game Thread - ADPinWDC - 10-12-2024

Clemson hung 49 on WAKE today... only scored 40 on us.
So, after SMU, we get WAKE in PA and move on to 3-5.
-- Wake's Defensive Secondary got shredded by CLEM; they are bad -- slow.

Then we get @NCST and host LOUV.   Likely 3-7.
Closing out @ CAL, and @ SJST, so we stay in the Bay Area for the last two games.

Is this ANOTHER 3-9 season?  I doubt we are favored in any remaining game.

RE: FB -- Notre Dame Game Thread - gailtate - 10-12-2024

The woebegone plight that is Stanford Football at this moment should be no shock to anyone who's been paying attention since 2018, if not a few years before. It sure as hell is no sudden out-of-the-blue collapse. The trainwreck has been in process for some time. What we're looking at today is the sum of multiple seasons of smug complacence and inattention, manifest in obliviousness as to best practices on how to keep what was once a genuinely elite program (read: staff) in good repair (see Nick Saban et.al.) year in and year out.  Season after season of jaw-dropping personnel decisions and conceit speak for themselves. The chickens came home to roost.

Gee what a shame. But then every time a Big Ten or Twelve team beats a P12 escapee, an angel gets its wings.

RE: FB -- Notre Dame Game Thread - marchballer - 10-12-2024

Feels like at this point Taylor has to make a change at QB. Seems like we could be close to losing the locker room and team soon.

I understand Myles Jackson may not be ready or Elijah Brown might still be injured but feels like we can’t continue going forward with Daniels and Lamson. Lack of QB play is killing us at this point and will soon take down the remaining semblance of our team.

They should be favored vs Wake to give them 3 wins.

Brown is supposedly close to returning. My guess is we throw Daniels to the wolves one final time vs. SMU and Brown either gets garbage time there - if healthy enough - or takes over starting against (a very winnable) Wake Forest.

I have no insight at all into team health. I do very much want to see what Brown brings to the table. As I understand it we had a "new" center and a new guard playing today. The pass blocking deteriorated supposedly as a result. I am not sure we can tell much about Brown with the quality of pass blocking we had against ND. Wake Forest will presumably have a much weaker pass rush, but if Brown has very anemic pass blocking he may not be able to "do his thing". OTOH if that is all we can provide, maybe better for him to learn to deal with it ASAP. Of course, the underlying risk is that he decides that next year it will not be much better and remaining at Stanford will not be a viable option for him. No way around that risk I'm afraid.

There's still a chance Brown comes in and does better than Daniels.  I'm not giving up on the whole season.
