Called that delay of game penalty! And Roush couldn't hang on to a intermediate crossing ball delivered on his numbers. That's on Roush, not BG imo...sigh.

I think Luck is trying not to get involved in the actual coaching decisions. But hopefully he's evaluating the coaches.

Going for it on 4th and 14? If you wanted to win this badly, you shouldn't throw an interception like that. And coaching decisions should have been made in favor of winning much, much earlier. That's turnover #3 for BG this game.

Brief thoughts:
Going in, I thought 200 yards of offense and the RBs averaging 3.0 ypc would be good signs of life for the offense moving forward (passing game clearly DOA with Gulbranson in as the starter, so didn't bother to establish any kind of similar benchmarks for the passing game).
Stanford's total offense: 161 yards
Stanford RB ypc: 2.2
[Insert frowny face emoji]
Defensively, I thought if the team held BYU's offense to five TDs or less, that would be a positive sign.
BYU offensive TDs: Two
As long as Gulbranson is playing QB, his "ceiling" is too low for the team to be a true threat offensively against a defense with any kind of talent. I believe the coaches think his floor is higher-to-much-higher compared to the other QBs, but he has very limited mobility and has thrown more interceptons so far this year (3) than all but three five FBS QBs (I'll amend if the Sunday morning stats show this to be false). His worst is not good enough to offset his severe limitations as a passer and runner.
Not a bad day for Bobby April's crew.

This reminds me of when we took way too long to replace Nunes and Nottingham with Kevin Hogan, mainly due to stubbornly sticking to seniority, which sounds like why we lost Bear Bachmeier. In this case, it's even worse because BG is a 5th year, so it's not like you are gaining anything for the future by playing him. At the very least, let another QB have at least one series in the game. It's just so frustrating to watch. How many 5-7 yard outs are just in the dirt or behind receivers?

In Italy and just had a chance to watch the replay. This team will only not challenge the 1-11 squad because their defense can at least stop someone. This team otherwise is dog shit. BG looks awful

I agree -- Reich gave BG his chance.
Elijah should start the Home Opener vs BC.
BC Eagles throw a lot; QB Lonergan has 8 TD passes already, and put up 390 yds on MIST yesterday in East Lansing, losing on a two-point conversion in 2OT.

maybe the O Line could have blocked a bit better, and the receivers could have created a bit more separation. if i'm a receiver or a lineman, i'm giving 100%.
but i wonder if, with a little playmaking ability and youthful inspiration from a kid like Brown.........i'm giving 110%?

Too many moving parts to fix this wagon quickly.
This O-Line is woefully green. No magic cure for that, other than another year of getting bigger, stronger and able to recognize blitz schemes.
Having said that, the announcers mentioned that BG had to learn to trust his protection, which I think means step up into the pocket and get some strength into his throws, instead of peeling off and launching a wet noodle off his back foot. (We’re somewhat spoiled, having seen some really great arms over the years — BG ain’t one of them and he needs all the help he can get. Those gopher-killing short passes made me want to pull my hair out.)
Brown is mobile but I wonder if he’ll get happy feet trying too hard to make things happen.
TT’s offense wasn’t working and it sure doesn’t look like the Reich/Luck system fits us either. Too painful to watch most of the time.
Our D will keep most games close, but wow the O needs an overhaul.

Reich knows this game, knows the requisite skiill sets, knows coaching (quarterbacking in particular) and he has patrolled the sidelines with a clipboard whistle around his neck for multiple decades. He's not here to humiliate Luck or himself. The way I see it there is nothing in this for him, at this stage of his life, except trial and tribulation.
I wish him and his "Bad News Bears" squad good speed and good health in the harrowing weeks ahead. They ain't gonna be pretty.
He and he alone anointed BG and is clearly avoiding the limited services of QB2, 3, 4, 5, etc. FOR A REASON.
If he's man enough for his boss/protege/shaman, A.L. then he's OK by me for this god-forsaken, dystopian cluster**** moment in Stanford football history. Deal with it.

As Kenny Rogers might have said "He's had some bad times, lived through some sad times." One more won't kill him, especially with the $3 million or whatever Stanford is going to pay him. Hopefully he will leave Stanford football in better shape than he found it.
