Wow, that's crazy. I see how unpredictable those ITA rankings can be. Fingers crossed.

Stanford battling to stay alive vs SMU. As of 2:15 pm PT on Thursday, we lost the doubles point so we're chasing four in singles.
The good news is that we're up the first set on courts #2, 3, 4 and 6.
The bad news is that we're down a set at courts #1 and #5.
C'mon Stanford!
Caroline Driscoll closes out a straight sets win on court #3. Now tied at 1.

Driscoll gets us one back, but worrying signs elsewhere as Ahn is down 5-1 in the second set. She'll go to a third. Sun & Wang up in their seconds, we really need them to hold on. Myoung seems to be outclassed down 6-2 5-1. Ekstrand showing signs of life at 1.

SMU takes the second set on court #2, so it will go to a third and deciding set.
SMU wins in straight sets on court #5. Now 2-1 SMU. Definitely nervous time.
SMU takes court #1 in straight sets for a 3-1 lead. Nuts!
Court #2 third set just starting.
Court #4 Stanford up one set and leading 4-3 in the second.
Court #6 Stanford up one set and tied 5-5 in the second.
It would be a helluva comeback but we can do this!

Sun is having to serve underhand - not promising for her to survive a third set.

Tianmei Wang with a straight set win at court #4!
Two more...

Sun somehow forces a tiebreaker with the underhand serve.
1-0 in the breaker after an SMU double to open. Nervy affair there.

Sun up 3-1 in the second-set tiebreaker. All she needs is 4 more points.
On court #2 both players with service breaks. Tied at 1-1 with Stanford's Ahn serving.

A heroic performance from Emma Sun! 4-1 up in the breaker now. Wang wins hers and pulls Stanford to 2-3.
5-2 Sun....two more points....

Sun up 6-2 in the tiebreaker on court #6.
She does it! We're all tied at 3. It's up to Alyssa Ahn on court #2.

Emma Sun with the point! Stanford draws level with SMU -- all up to Ahn now.
Absolutely incredible that we've won a point on #6 in a match that matters.

Court #2 tied up at 2 in the third set. All four games have been service breaks. Time for Alyssa Ahn, who's on serve, to restore some order.

Ahn breaks back to level the third set, 2-2.

Ahn holds serve! She's up 3-2 in the third set.
Ahn with the break! She's now up 4-2 and serving.
Ahn up 5-2...
Match point...
Too bad, SMU comes back to take the game. Ahn serving for the match up 5-3.
Ahn with double match point...
She does it! Stanford wins 4-3!

Incredible since they just lost to SMU a few days ago.

Not only did they lose to SMU, they lost 4-1. And in the two unfinished matches Stanford was trailing 4-0 and 4-2 in the third set. That was a clock cleaning in Dallas. But today Alyssa Ahn, Tianmei Wang and Emma Sun turned those frowns upside down.
Stanford's reward for beating #8-seed/#25-nationally ranked SMU is a rematch on Friday with #1-seed/#7-nationally ranked Virginia.
The women were skunked 4-0 by UVA on Senior Day, so I say it's time for revenge.

I'm concerned about Monika Ekstrand. She has lost badly in her last two singles matches yesterday and today. Wonder if she is ill or injured. We already know that Sun is dealing with an injury (likely shoulder) that prevents her from serving overhand. Sun is skipping doubles.

Would you sit Ekstrand and Sun vs UVA if you were the coach?

The issue is who would play if they sat? We are already very thin as it is…
So I take it Glozman is out for the rest of the year, given she is. I longer in the doubles line-up?

There are only 8 players on the team. Glozman appears to be out. If Sun and Ekstrand do not play, Stanford would only have 5 players left. They would have to forfeit one doubles and one singles.
