Bobbbbbbbbb, I'm shocked, shocked I say.

He won the 400 IM twice in the Olympics and played in the NFL. Three Olympic gold medals.

Not Mr. Outside but Glenn Davis from Ohio State. Caught 10 passes in two years for the Lions.

OK let's warm up with a softball.

Who were the mens' winners of the sprints at the '24 Paris Olympics?

100m, 200m, 400m.

What runner held the World Records simultaneously in the mile, 5000m and 10,000m? Never equaled.

What was the archaic "Short Marathon" distance?

How many of them died of AIDS?

I actually was going to put that in my answer but wasn't sure if it might sound as if I was making light of it, in any case the answer is two.

RE: Sports trivia thread 2022 - Phogge - 05-02-2022

Can you remember the real names?

What about the other questions?

Ian Charleston... mostly stage actor in UK.
Brad Davis... Midnight Express. Committed suicide.

If I remember correctly both were 41.

I do know their real names, don't know the answers to the other questions.

100m Harold Abrahams
200m Jackson Schultz (Miller Lite commercial)
400m Eric Liddell

Paavo Nurmi held the mile, 5,000m and 10,000m world records at the same time. Paavo Slam!

The alternative marathon was a race covering 25 miles.

Of course, should have known that one.

RE: Sports trivia thread 2022 - BobK - 05-02-2022

I’m pretty sure I got it right first on the mile etc

RE: Sports trivia thread 2022 - Phogge - 05-02-2022

Not quite Bobbbbbbb. Hassan's 5K record was in a road race and not on the track.

RE: Sports trivia thread 2022 - BobK - 05-02-2022

Really. How did I miss that ?
The other day an American pro ran the 4th fastest 200 ever. He couldn’t do interviews this morning as he was in his HS Algebra class

RE: Sports trivia thread 2022 - Phogge - 05-02-2022

Erriyon Knighton... has gone pro, signing with Adidas. Four star WR recruit who looks like he's given up football. Finished fourth in the '21 Olympic 200.

RE: Sports trivia thread 2022 - Phogge - 05-02-2022

Who is the only catcher in MLB history to win three batting titles?

RE: Sports trivia thread 2022 - BobK - 05-02-2022

Lombardi or Mauer

Because he declined in the second half of his career (and moved to first base, and retired early) people seem to forget what a great hitter Mauer was in his prime; through age 30 he had put up brobdingnagian numbers for a catcher, but all that squatting takes a lot out of you.

In the spirit of the NFL draft:

Jim Brown was selected sixth overall in the 1957 draft, who were the two running backs picked ahead of him?

RE: Sports trivia thread 2022 - Sophomoric - 05-03-2022

The 49ers just picked Brock Purdy with the last selection of the 2022 NFL draft, a/k/a "Mr. Irrelevant."

Who coined the phrase "Mr. irrelevant?"

RE: Sports trivia thread 2022 - Phogge - 05-03-2022

Former 49er Paul Salata.
