Paul Douglas was the manager.
Ray Milland was a chemist who accidentally discovered a tonic that when applied to baseballs would not contact wood surfaces thus there wasn’t a bat made that could hit the ball.
Joe E Brown was Elmer.
Phillis Eddie Waitkus was shot by a female stalker.

1. Who is the only player to ever GIDP four times in a game (he went 0-4 with 4 GIDP)?
2. Who holds the single season MLB GIDP record?
3. Who holds the all time AL GIDP record?
4. Who holds the all time NL GIDP record?
5. Who holds the all time MLB GIDP record?
The answers to all five are Hall of Famers.

Possibly the slowest player ever, led the league in GIDP four times, but not the answer to these questions. Didn't play as much as the all time leaders, on per at-bat basis I bet he holds the record. He had 30 GIDP in one season (the record is 36).

I know that Yogi is one. He had that comical reputation but he was a genuine hero and great player.

The other player is not a household name. I was clueless looking it up. Technically not part of D Day but involved in the landings.

Leon Day was an outstanding Negro League pitcher who played second base on days he didn't pitch. A Hall of Famer.
He was in an amphibian battalion that delivered supplies to Utah Beach.
