A sports illustrated piece says there are three teams in particular that South Caroline does not want to face in the NCAA tournament: Stanford, Texas, and Colorado. Interesting group, the first two in part because their coaches Tara and Schaefer, are so familiar with Staley and her coaching style. And re Stanford, also because of Cam. Including her threes that spread the floor. Re Colorado, because of how they space the floor and are just plain tough

It's a "fan nation" opinion piece with no quotes from anyone at South Carolina. So the piece isn't reporting that South Carolina says they don't want to face those teams; it's just the writer's way of saying he thinks they would be tough opponents.

Another weekend of turmoil in top 12 -- #3 Stanford loses to unranked Arizona; #9 OSU loses to unranked Washington; #10 Kansas State loses to unranked Kansas; #6 NC State loses to unranked Duke; #7 USC loses to #18 Utah -- and either #12 UCLA or #11 Colorado will lose tomorrow since they are playing one another.

UCLA beats Colorado 53-45 in a game that may have permanently damaged my eyesight.
Seriously, 39 combined turnovers and 36 made shots.
Betts totally ineffective today. Slightly in her defense UCLA couldn’t make an entry pass to save their lives. But 2 pts and 9 rebounds is minimal impact.
Colorado eliminated in the conference race.

Haha interesting. Adia did tweet the terrible hotel was in Berkley. She also said after Friday's game that she wants to continue the series with Stanford in the future. Thus far, I believe Barnes, Cori Close, Graves, and maybe Kami Ethridge have all on the record said they hope to continue a home and home with Stanford in the nonconference after this season. Now everyone wants to play us!

If we do try to maintain a lot of contact with our former Pac 12 schools that could take up much of the preseason. Both the lower tiered competition--teams like Hawaii, Cal Poly, San Diego State, and Davis, and the higher tiered competition--teams like Indiana, South Carolina, and Texas, may have to make way for former Pac 12 opponents. Doing a few home-and-aways with former Pac 12 schools during the preseason could make our overall schedule much more difficult if the lower tier is replaced, and perhaps easier if the upper tier gets replaced. Which will it be?
Then we may have to get used to playing basketball on different nights. The ACC women play Thursday-Sunday, not Friday-Sunday. At least this year. That will make the long road trips that much longer and eat further into classroom time. It might be advantageous for Tara's style of coaching to have more time between games, though, given the large emphasis on the scouting report.
The person with the biggest challenge for next year will be Eileen Roche, Director of Basketball Operations. Not only putting the schedule together, but finding the right hotels, travel arrangements, food etc. in all new cities, most for the first time. Can't just go back to our favorite LA accommodations for the 36th time in a row. It would be a shock if all of that went completely smoothly in the first year. So many moving pieces.

Peril for #2 and #3 ranked teams continues. #20 Oklahoma just beat #3 Texas, 71-70. Fingers crossed for us tomorrow night. Nope, no fingers crossed, just be confident that we'll play as well as we can, then all will be fine.

How likely is it that we will play "as well as we can"? That seems like something that happens relatively rarely, as it did once this season against UCLA, once against Oregon, and against Indiana.

Well, if a fan of a bowler thinks the bowler should bowl a 300 game when he bowls as well as he can, that fan will often be disappointed.
If one were to compare Stanford WBB pre-season rankings with where the team is now, it would seem they’ve done pretty well, at least in relation to the teams they’ve leap-frogged.
If someone is disappointed in this team’s performance, I feel sorry for that person.

I look forward to playing new schools and seeing how we match up against different coaches and playing styles. Of course, travel will be much worse, but maybe we can get some Midwest or East Coast recruits to play for us now that we're traveling to the other side of the country much more often.
It will be fun to discuss and especially read analyses from the posters here, esp. 81alum's always detailed previews of our upcoming matchups

Compared to their first reveal, what jumps out in terms of teams we've played is Colorado dropping all the way from a #1 seed to a #4 seed, UCLA jumping in onto the top line and Gonzaga entering the Top 16
