I'm assuming this is accurate. Note the PR bond. Seems very fortunate for Sherman and hopefully he can quickly dispense of the criminal charges, and more importantly, get the support he needs to make sure that his mental health is prioritized and an incident like this never happens again.
No bail makes sense. He isn't a flight risk, and probably for him 10K isn't really much of a deterrent if he were. It was requested as a pro-forma action because that is probably what they typically ask on a DUI charge. I expect all charges will be dropped except the DUI. If any of the other charges remain, it will be to force a longer probation period. In any case, he isn't going to jail. I am sure everybody on this board really hopes that Richard Sherman can get a handle on what is bothering him and work through it. That said, it often isn't easy to do and it isn't a sure thing. Lets just hope that he succeeds.

folks have mentioned the possibility of cte, which is a dire possible cause. a more hopeful possibility is bipolar illness. the family has reported that r s has been on antidepressants. it's quite common that the depressive episodes show up before a manic or hypomanic episode. if mania emerges, the meds are switched to mood stabilizers as antidepressants make manic episodes worse. mood stabilizers for bipolar illness are usually quite effective if there is family support and money for treatment.

i think often of jaco pastorius, the fabulous jazz bassist, who had a long history of drinking and fighting but was diagnosed as bipolar only two years before his death. he again got drunk and belligerent in a bar and fought with the bouncer, who pushed him out of the bar. he fell, hit his head on the curb, and died at age 35. unfortunately, jaco was diagnosed late and also did not have close friends and family nearby to help him stay in treatment.

As soon as I heard of Sherman's arrest my first thought was bi-polar. It seemed to be the most logical explanation of the described behavior because it was so out of character. If this is in fact true, and Sherman agrees to get the help he needs, he probably has very favorable odds of avoiding jail. Given his notoriety and background, he will likely have a good opportunity to make a lot of lemonade out of the lemons his incident gave him as well.

Indeed. That is a Man, period. Best of luck to him and his family.

More details on the Richard Sherman situation. I have some feeling that this info (including my posting) is an invasion of his privacy, but I think there are lessons here that are important, including how the system  worked in this case.

thanks for posting. yes, it seems the system did work for r.s.

brian copeland's one-man-show, "the waiting period," at the marsh theater in s.f. is wonderful. he tells the story of how he had to wait for the gun he would use to kill himself. during the waiting period, his friends and family helped him change his mind and live. he plays all the roles. the show is not depressing at all. it's uplifting and even funny. we saw it a few years ago. since then the marsh has re-mounted the show several times for runs of a few weeks, so you may have a chance to see it in the future.

after each performance, he offers his hope that seeing the show might inspire others to wait and hopefully change their minds, and he gives examples.

It's good to see examples of regulations seeming to work as intended to fill the need they are meant to address.

I have to admit feeling a bit jaded looking at the new WA payroll tax for Long Term Care, and how it is rolling out.
