What a tough situation coach Esquer faces. All the starting infielders and outfielders, plus the Friday pitcher and top reliever are gone.
It's going to be Moore and a lot of unproven players taking the field. Getting to the post season will be a feat from today's point of view.
Perhaps the incoming class will be stellar and some bench players will go all "Rios" to make us a contender once again.

This is Brandon Larson from UC San Diego.
He was a frosh last year. Started 35 games, mostly at DH (one game at 1B).
Hit 0.295 with 9 HRs.
UC San Diego won the Big West but was ineligible for the NCAA tournament as they are in a transitioning stage to Division 1.

Not too surprising someone from Northwestern is interested in transferring.
Northwestern was 10-40 last year, 4-20 in the Big Ten. And they fired their coach for scandal.
Sam Garewal was a frosh pitcher. He had an ERA of 5.69, WHIP of 1.43, 49.0 innings pitched.
That ERA was 4th on the team, but those above had considerable fewer innings.
WHIP was also 4th with same issues on those above.
Garewal made the All Big Ten frosh team.
Curiously, he was not listed as making the team in a pitching spot, but rather was listed as "at large". The only player so listed. Garewal never had an at-bat, so this isn't some kind of two-way player designation.

As usual, I try to minimize the loss in my mind to ease the pain. Montgomery was hard, but....
He's going pro after next year so we're missing out on only 1 year. Even with Montgomery, we'd have a hard time making the post season with such a roster turnover as Stanford is experiencing.

Great news. Gotta think he'll work hard this offseason to get back to how he was playing earlier in the season.

The Chicago Cubs missed the MLB postseason by a game. Nico Hoerner (LSJU class of '19) hit .283 in 688 plate appearances, with 9 HR, 27 doubles, 68 RBI, 98 runs scored, and 43 steals (4th in NL and 6th in all of MLB). Only 9 errors in 667 plays in the field, for a sparkling .987 fielding percentage.
The Cubs' arch rival St. Louis Cardinals had their worst season since 1990, at 71-91. Tommy Edman '17 hit .248 in 528 plate appearances, with 13 HR, 25 doubles, 47 RBI and 27 steals. He scored only 68 runs, down from 95 a year ago. Similar to Hoerner, Edman committed only 8 errors in 560 plays in the field, for a .986 fielding percentage.
And for your manager-less, card playing, music-blaring-after-losing SF Giants, Austin Slater '15 hit .270 in 207 plate appearances, with 5 HR, 9 doubles, 20 RBI and 2 steals. .980 fielding percentage (2 errors in 100 plays in the field).

The Cubbies couged it by losing 8 of their final 9 away games. This included getting swept by AZ, the team that edged them out by a game.
