I saw the Logan Kim transfer. Any updates on why he transferred? I'm assuming this is not about NIL and may be about position on roster, but would appreciate any insights here.

If I were to say anything, it would be total speculation. I have seen no public (or private) discussion of Kim's situation. I know nothing about his relationship with Coach Ray, his injury status or his fit with his teammates or with Stanford.
So I will speculate. He may have thought that he had a better chance to improve on (or recover from) his mediocre freshman year somewhere else.

It's certainly possible that Kim's transfer might have nothing to do with Stanford or his frosh year results. He is from Altadena, CA. I don't know if his family was affected by the fires. Maybe he just wants to be closer to home.
His freshman scoring average, while the 14th best all time for a freshman at Stanford, was a stroke higher than his fellow frosh TK Chantananuwat and Jay Leng. And Kim did not finish in the top 20 of any full field event.

McNealy is tied for 6th (70-64-69) heading into the final round of the BMW championship. The only Americans ahead of him are the peerless Scheffler, and Burns, who like McNealy is on the bubble for the Ryder Cup roster.

McNealy in 4th on the back nine, trailing only Scheffler, MacIntyre and Burns. Not sure if there are two Ryder Cup slots available for McNealy, and Burns.

McNealy finishes in sole possession of 3rd place (final round 66), behind Scheffler and MacIntyre. On to next week's finale, the Tour Championship.

Top six are set with Scheffler, J. J. Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, Harris English and Bryson DeChambeau.
Bradley has six picks to go. Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin and Maverick McNealy round out the Top 10 in rankings.s.

Scottie Scheffler was winless in the 2023 Ryder Cup. His career record is 2-2-3.
I think what makes McNealy attractive is his feast-or-famine reputation and the fact that he's hot right now.

McNealy was 3 over par in the first round of the Tour Championship until a couple of late birdies brought him back to a 71 for the round. Which has him in 29th place out of the 30 at the tournament. Hoping he can have a better second round. No cut line at this tournament.

McNealy with a sparkling second round of 64 (third lowest score of the day), with 5 birdies on the back nine. He's now 5 under and tied for 20th heading into the weekend.

McNealy shot 69-70 over the weekend, ended up 6 under par, tied for 23rd. That's fantastic in all contexts other than for the Ryder Cup.
The team will be announced on Wednesday at 8 a.m. PT. Fingers crossed but not looking too great for McNealy.

McNealy not selected for next month's Ryder Cup team.
Keegan Bradley at the press conference: "it was very very difficult to call Mav . . . played very well all year long . . . really impressed with his game . . . I told him, it's okay to be angry and use this as fuel in your career . . . ultimately it was a really tough decision."
McNealy probably had a better 2025 than at least Morikawa and Thomas, and was 11th in the rankings. If someone on the team gets a freak injury or illness next month leading up to the tournament, McNealy should be next man up.

McNealy's reputation is hot and cold, would have made him ideal for the team. As captain, Keegan Bradley had the option to name himself and he declined to do so. Tough call for the others.
This is Morikawa's third Ryder Cup, and he's 4-3-1 all-time. Thomas is even better, now in his fourth Ryder Cup with a 7-4-2 record.
Young is a rookie, but won the Met PGA NY State Open at Bethpage Black eight years ago, and had a six stroke victory at the Wyndham with top-12 finishes in his last four starts, so he's recently hot. Cantlay is 5-2-1 in past Ryder Cups. Griffin has ten Top-10 finishes (just behind Scheffler), and did well at the majors. Has two PGA Tour victories. Burns is probably the best putter, ranking first on the tour in strokes gained: putting and putting inside of ten feet. Handy to have.
I understand why the six got selected. Too bad for McNealy. I hope he's first alternate, alternatively, I hope he makes it next time.

In the recent Procore championship; Salinda, McNealy and Thorbjornsen all finished -10, tied for 13th. Bramlett was T26 at -8. Vilips was T47 at -4.
Ryder Cup this upcoming week, starting on 9/26 at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, NY.

Maybe better than Morkiawa/English, 5 & 4 losers to Fleetwood Mac on Friday. They had one birdie all day. Scheffler and Henley were terrible vs. Aberg & Fitzpatrick, who had two birdies, lost 5 and 3. Dechambeau and Thomas birdied the first hole, then lost 4&3.
That was just Friday morning. Sam Burns, Harris English, Russell Henley and Collin Morikawa didn't win a single point. I think McNealy could have at least matched that.

Michael Thorbjornsen (-16) finished third in the Baycurrent Classic in Yokohama. Xander Schauffele (-19), showing no ill effects of the Ryder Cup disaster won the tournament. Pretty darned cool, it's his third top ten and second-best finish this year (he finished second at the 2025 Corales Puntacana Championship).
Vilips (-4, T40), Salinda (-3, T46) andRodgers (+3, T62) all played reasonably well. McNeally didn't participate.

What does it say about our men's golf team's season that this thread is almost entirely about alums? We aren't ranked in the top 25 this season and don't seem to be an overly competitive team, in contrast to a lot of past and recent seasons. Anyone know what's going on this season?

Same as last season. Stanford isn't really competitive with top 25 teams. Players have arrived at Stanford with strong junior credentials, but college has been a different matter.
