I am innocent of this man's poll; see to it yourselves!

Kudos to Terry and Jamesy. Well done!

Was anyone at Maples this afternoon to greet the champs?

I see what you did there!   Was there a small bowl to clean your fingers nearby?  :-)

Metaphorically speaking, yes.

We’d have to drop to FCS, as that’s the only NCAA-run D1 football championship. So let’s hope not.

Hope springs eternal.  Lacrosse.  The team brings back its star players with the exception of Mallory Hasselbek who was a grad transfer.  It seems likely that Stanford would pick up some grad transfers from the other top programs or even portal transfers because most of the top programs are also strong academic schools.

Jon Levin posted about the MGYM title and the 50 year streak on LinkedIn....

"Congratulations to the Stanford men’s gymnastics team, which won its sixth NCAA championship in seven years last weekend!

Their achievement marks the 50th year in a row that Stanford has won an NCAA championship. To get a sense of how remarkable that is -- the second longest active title streak is seven years. Stanford leads all universities with 138 NCAA team championships. Congratulations to our student-athletes, who continue to reach stunning new heights!"

50 straight years is phenomenal. Only at LSJU. I remember the first one in fall quarter of 1976, M WP.

The goalie Chris Dorst was introduced in the dining hall at my dorm early in winter quarter 1977, I think, and got a standing ovation. I had never even heard of water polo until a few months earlier. (Hard to believe Dean Fred gave me the "Great!" letter notwithstanding such ignorance.) Little did we all know it would be the start of something amazing. Of course, Chris is now head of LSJU athletics guest services incl the beloved Red Coats :-)

I vote Polo.   Yes, equine polo.

No way am I going to tick off the Woofing Gods!  But do they appreciate humor?  or find it distracting?  I don't remember from my last read of the official Woofing documentation . . .

Excellent questions! My observation is that the WG seem to be more forgiving if penance is offered in a Shakespearean tone.

Women's sailing just won another national championship.

RE: In what sport will Stanford win its first 2025-26 NCAA championship? - SearchingForTheTruth - 04-27-2026

Actually the team graduates a lot this year.

Lucy Pearson - G
Mallory Hasselbeck - A
Rylee Bouvier - M
Kate Bellissimo - D
Dakota Uy - Draw
Annabel Frist - M

In addition these redshirt Juniors could leave:

Olivia Rose - D
Peep Williams - A
Aliya Polisky - A

Also, Jordyn Case - M is a fifth year who has 1 year of eligibility left. She could petition for a sixth year due to injury.

Most of these are starters except Peep and Dakota. Peep is coming early off the bench and Dakota is primarily a draw specialist. They are losing a lot of talent.

The Oliver Woofing Theorem in all of its early internet, pre worldwide web glory:

Usenet bulletin boards hosted on Arpanet servers-those were the days.

(We seem to be one of the few fan sites still referencing Oliver and the Woofing Gods … Somehow I’m not in the least surprised!)

SearchingForTheTruth -- I know nothing about the current state of Stanford WLAX, but I did just see the head coach win ACC Coach of the Year.  Is this deserved?  A flash in the pan?  A sign of good things to come?

fullmetal, since you are our resident rowing expert, how is the defending NCAA champion Stanford women's team doing this year? NCAAs are a month away.
