Point taken, early days.

On the other hand, Bailey was lifted for a pinch hitter today in the 7th.  Of course Encarnacion only managed a softer roller for an out ...

We'll take the 2-1 series win against the Padres.

Giants now up to 24th in OPS. Susac goes 3 for 3, nice.

It will be interesting to see who Vitello uses as closer. Puts Ryan Walker in a setup role, his former pitcher at Tennessee Blade Tidwell pitches last three innings. In three innings, Tidwell gets three strikes looking, Walker got four strikes looking in two batters.

Arraez batting .321 with a triple last night. Casey Schmitt second at .373. No one else above .222 among the starters.

At least SFG pitching is 8th in ERA and Fielding is 10th in Rtot (3, first time it's been positive in years), 3 errors in 7 games

What does Susac's emergence mean for Patrick Bailey?

It means that they won't be afraid to sub him in, and start alot of games vs lefties. He has looked good, and better than last year's contenders.

RE: 2026 San Francisco Giants - Mick - 04-06-2026

Giants are dead last in MLB in runs per game. They are the first NL team to 7 losses. Vitello got kicked out in his ninth MLB game after five total ejections in eight seasons at Tennessee.

I'm starting to think they might not win the World Series...

Don’t worry, my powerhouse Phillies are in town. I’m sure the Giants will take two of three or maybe sweep my Phillies as they usually do in SF. I’ve been sick for a week and still have a remaining bad cough so not going to the games this year.

Feel better!

Two of three for the Giants still possible, but at this rate, not likely. . ..

I’m feeling better after that surprise win last night. Philly should get tonight’s game with their ace on the mound.

CC, hope you are doing well after your surgery.

Agreed, hope you're up and around in no time. Can we get a progress report?

Great shutout win last night. 12 hits, only gave up 4 hits. Chapman went 3/4, now batting .304, Arraez at .292, Schmitt at .280, Encarnacion at .313. Adames better than expected at .239. Devers, Ramos, JHL and Bader are all under .200.

Susac's current line is .857/.875/1.143/2.018. Had a triple last night. I wouldn't mind if he and Bailey caught 81 games apiece, given Bailey's propensity for breaking down. Just an odd side, but I had the chance to stand next to Bailey mid-season last year. The guy looks out of shape to me.

Devers has one HR on the season, James Tibbs was part of that trade, Boston sent him to LA, and Tibbs has seven HRs in nine games for the Dodgers' AAA team. Some sources are calling him the top prospect in America.

Ex-SF Giants prospect tearing it up for Dodgers could turn Devers trade into disaster

Ray threw 109 pitches last night. That's too much. It was my only real concern with Vitello...lots of college coaches overrely on their best arms. And Ryan Walker did nothing to ease concerns last night. Keaton Winn, on the other hand, looked really strong.

Nick San Miguel of Around the Foghorn says SF's defense has been terrible so far, except for one supremely ironic exception: Luis Arraez.

SF Giants defense has been terrible so far with one supremely ironic exception

Arraez leads the infielders in Assists by a mile (40) over Chaman (28) and Adames (27). He also leads in double plays, 9 to three and six respectively. he has zero errors. Statcast thinks he's terrific, ranks him as third best 2nd baseman.

Chapman has three (although I'd give at least one of those to Schmitt and maybe two).
SF Giants 3B Matt Chapman's ex-teammate comes to his defense after Schmitt episode

Side note: Giants outfielders have plus Rtot; Bader (+2), Lee (+1), Oliva (+1). Ramos is -2.

I don't think NSM is correct; the Giants team defense is exactly MLB average Rtot, 0. They have the third most DPs but the 9th most errors.

His range factor is terrible (rtot -10).  His lack of errors is due to his inability to get to batted balls.

SF needs an upgrade at that position.  As for Susac/Bailey, if Susac continues to hit well, yes, it will be time to consider a platoon or a benching of Bailey.

RE: 2026 San Francisco Giants - BostonCard - 04-08-2026

Giants have now pitched 20 consecutive scoreless innings and took the rubber game of the series with the Phillies.

RE: 2026 San Francisco Giants - Mick - 04-09-2026

Giants defense has been slightly above average. Currently, they are 11th in team Rtot at +3, 16th in fielding average.

Cold-starting (usually) Willy Adames leads the NL in doubles with seven.

I think Susac and Bailey already have a de facto platoon, given Bailey's propensity to weaken and/or break down over the course of the year. Bailey has already played 11 of the 13 games. Susac is hitting .875. Bailey has to catch, Susac has to hit. I think both will play 90+ games.

Arraez is fourth out of 15 NL second basemen in range factor (4.42). He's first among NL second basemen in assists with 40 (Wetherholt is next with 36), he's 2nd in double plays among 15 NL second basemen with 9. BTW, Chapman and Adames are 1st and 3rd in NL assists. Almost as if the Giants have a lot of ground ball-producing pitchers.

Bader is 4th in CF putouts, Lee is 2nd in RF putouts.

Last time Giants pitched 20 consecutive scoreless innings was 2012 when their streak reached 35 straight scoreless innings.

RE: 2026 San Francisco Giants - Mick - 04-09-2026

Kyle Harrison was 0-2 in spring training with a 5.79 ERA. So far, in the regular season for Milwaukee, he has had two starts, a 2.61 ERA (but a 4.15 FIP) and a 0.968 WHIP in 10 1/3rd innings. He's given up two home runs, three walks, and struck out 14. In other words, doing pretty well.

Tyler Rogers has pitched six games, 6 2/3 innings, given up four hits, 3 walks (two intentional), 5 K's, 0.00 ERA, 3.04 FIP, 1.050 WHIP. This after a 2.30 ERA for the Mets last year.

Camilo Doval has an  8.31 ERA, no saves in six games, 4 1/3rd IP, given up four runs, six K's, 1.11 FIP, 1.385 WHIP.

Luis Matos has one hit in nine ABs for the Brewers.

Susac broke Willie McCovey's record for most hits by an SF Giant in his first two games. Susac is one of just two players in the modern era (since 1969) to begin is career 5 for 5.

Under the heading, “looking for any shred of hope”….

As of this morning, SF is currently tied for the most consecutive wins (3) in MLB…..

Bad news is that two of the teams they're tied with are the Padres and Diamondbacks...but at least we have Logan Webb, staff ace starting today at 4:15. Orioles have Chris Bassitt with a 14.51 ERA (no typo) and a 2.84 WHIP.

No Barry Zito, no 2012 World Series title - he was worth every penny of his contract just for that post season run.  Flags fly forever!

He had a great postseason run in 2012. Three starts, 16 innings, three earned runs (two in the NLDS), great start against St. Louis, great start against Detroit in the WS.

Zito's ERA in 2012 (15-8) was the same as his ERA in 2010 when he went 9-14. Outside of his one winning season, Zito went 48-80,
