San Jose nickname - other than Bees and Giants, I only know of one - Missions.
Who was the first Stanford alum to play in the Majors?
He went 1 for 8 with the Cardinals in his only year in MLB.

Charlie Swindells was the first Stanford player in MLB, 1904, played for the Cardinals. I posted this about 10 months ago.

There have been five California Leagues in MLB history, and you are no doubt referring to the current version. Four of the leagues came and went between 1886 and 1909. But for historical accuracy's sake, let's add the San Jose Dukes (1891), Drakes (1892), Florists (1898), and Prune Pickers (1899, 1903-1909).

Can think of four 50's players: Dave Melton, Jack Shepard, Chuck Essegian, Dr. Bobby Brown.
One basketball player: Darrell Sutherland.
I think there are four football playing MLBers: Essegian, Ernie Nevers, Joe Borchard, Lloyd Merriman.
Edit: Holy moly, forgot Brian Johnson. Can't remember if Hutchinson ever pitched in MLB.
