Mick, Braun was called up to Eugene several weeks ago. He’s still scalding the ball and he’s stealing bases. Easier to do in the minors with pitchers allowing big jumps.

As for the Dodgers good for them. Jayne Mansfield had ‘em and showed ‘em. The Dodgers have the cash and they show it. American free enterprise and not like the NFL and Socialized spending caps.

The post season is all about pitching.  Heck, as the Giants proved in 2014, sometimes it only takes one guy who locks up the opposing hitters.

It isn’t about the Dodgers dominance in the division (as it turned out, the West wasn’t nearly as strong as was anticipated).  The big question has been, “ Does LA have the pitching necessary to successfully navigate the playoffs?”  

At this point, the Dodgers’ starting pitching is a mix of guys who are hurt (Kershaw), on the rehab trail (Buehler, May), pitching above their weight class (Gonsolin/Anderson), kinda healthy (Heaney) and healthy (Urias). Finding three/four guys from that list who will be ready to go will be a challenge. 

On the other hand, the Mets are solid across the board with four healthy starters, Scherzer, Walker, Carrasco and Bassitt and DeGrom now getting up to speed. That gives them the luxury of choosing four from five. 

At this point, assuming both teams receive the NL byes, I like the Mets over LA.  We shall see.

I get it about Johnny Sain, although his regular season ERA was basically identical to Red Barrett's.  Warren Spahn...3.06 ERA in that WS.  Voiselle and Bickford had 2.53 and 2.70 ERAs respectively in the 1948 world series. And Barrett, who'd started during the season had a 0.00 ERA in the WS, one hit in 3 2/3 innings.

I “like” anyone over the Dodgers.:). But if I’m betting, I have a hard time going against them.  Unlike last year they will be rested and can assemble their staff as they wish.  But of course, you are right. Pitching first.  Dodgers have, by far, best pitching in NL at this point.  And they will be adding.  

Agree with you that Mets are their biggest threat.  If DeGrom and Scherzer are healthy.

The Dodgers are at the Mets in three weeks. An NLCS preview, IMO.

The Braves have proven they just aren't as good as the Mets this year. I know they will get Albies back in a month or so, but the Mets are just a better team IMO, having won 6 of last 8 against them. I'm not a Mets fan, but am a fan of the Mets and how they play. They put so much pressure on teams everywhere on the field, particularly with how many pitches their lineup forces opposing team starters to throw.

Edwin Diaz is having an outrageous season as closer:

ERA 1.39
WHIP .860
FIP .82
HITS 27
SO 90
BB 12

Dude is averaging two Ks per inning!

I’m not *that* long suffering.  Only moved to San Diego in 1992.  Before that I was (and to a degree continue to be) a Blue Jays fan, since I was born there.  At least I got to celebrate two World Series.

In the PCL early 50’s. I have his Mother’s Cookie card 1952. They came singly in the back of a cellophane package so you could see which card was there. 62 cards in ‘52, 63 in ‘53. My mom bought a lot of cookies.
