Williams has options.  He’s possible.

Long has options. He may be the most likely.  

But I’m thinking time to cut Dubon loose. It is going to happen May 2 anyway. Williams can play the Swiss Army Knife  role.  That also opens a spot on the 40.  Luis Gonzalez is someone that has opened eyes.  He could be elevated.

Edit: And the answer is - Brebbia to bereavement list.  3 game minimum. 7 game maximum.

If he continues bonehead plays, agree re Dubon. But, he has continued to show good power for a fairly versatile utility player which I like. He hits the ball hard.

After four games, I'm really concerned about their hitting, or lack there of.

After four and a half games, the Giants have a very powerful lineup of sluggers.

10-1 after 3.

I wasn’t sure how to read your post. Giants scored 12 runs in the first four games, 3 per game, which is low.  But after tonight, there average will shoot up, even if they get shut out the rest of the way.

Probably too small a sample size to come to any conclusions.

Giants now T7 most runs scored in MLB, #6 in OPS, #9 in OBP. Also T7 most strikeouts.  

Also T7 in ERA (2.93) but #15 in WHIP.  #4 in overall strikeouts, but #1 in strikeouts per game by a long way.

Second most errors, and third worst fielding percentage in the majors.

Currently on pace to win 100... ;)

Also, props to Alyssa Nakken for being the first woman to coach on the field in an MLB game, and props to SD 1B Eric Hosmer for welcoming and congratulating her for the achievement, especially after he'd gone 0 for 3 with two strikeouts.

Magic number to 80 wins is 77.

To be fair to Hosmer, he was 0-1 with one K at the time Naaken took over 1B coaching duties.

Philly first baseman Alec Bohm apologized to Philly fans after saying : I f—-ng hate this place.”  Dick Allen is smiling somewhere. 

Bohm made three errors and when he made a routine catch the Philly fans gave him a big mock cheer.

How can you not want to play for this Gabe Kapler guy as a player?

He needs to use every tool at his disposal to be successful to stick at the major-league level, to demonstrate his value, to hone his craft. That doesn’t ebb and flow with the score. And it’s not just Mauricio. It’s Steven Duggar on the bases. It’s the pitcher on the mound. Everyone is competing on the baseball field. It doesn’t make any sense to have one part of the field stop competing and the other part keep competing.”

There is a lot of pettiness in MLB. After covering 27 World Series including most of them for the production arm of MLB I have seen that pettiness extend all the way up the chain. The most blatant practitioner was the long time chief of PR who did his best to make it hard to do your job. He and the two gals actually running each league (leagues offices have been done away with) for the titular presidents were enthralled with the "stars" among the writers and network execs. They made it hard at times for the production company that quite literally was producing content aimed at luring kids into fandom.

The pettiness has extended for decades into the realm of "Showing up the opponent." I agree with OF but the Giants are going to get the same treatment when the time comes. I expect Kapler knows it. Good for him.

I agree.  This isn’t a kids game where the difference in ability can be significant.  Therefore, a mercy rule should be in place. 

This is The Show.  These are professionals whose skills and competitive instincts have been honed over the years to perform at the highest level in the game.  It is all about production and results.  To suggest to a player that he should relax because his team is up by nine runs in the second is ludicrous.  Keep pushing, keep scoring runs.  If the other team doesn’t like it, they can always do something about it.  I would recommend playing better.

Heck, there will come a time when Kapler is on the other side of a beat down.  No big deal, play through it and move on.  Of all the things that Kapler has brought to the Giants, this may be my favorite - the attitude that “you better bring your A game if you want to compete with us”.
