Quantrill was picked up by the Rangers this year. He is now a full-time reliever. He came in today after Leiter gave up 5 runs and Rangers were down 5-0 (final score was 6-0).

Not quite a full Stanford player but Braden Montgomery is being called up to the show.

And Montgomery hits a walk-off HR in his ChiSox debut! Storybook stuff. Apparently only the 5th MLBer ever to do so.

Would have been a great question for the trivia thread, but the answer was in your link.  That’s great for Montgomery.

Stowers accounted for both Marlins runs yesterday in the 2-1 win over the woeful/dysfunctional SF Giants. He homered, then later doubled and scored what proved to be the winning run. 8 HR and 23 RBI so far this season, well off his All Star numbers from last season but he seems to be heating up a bit at the plate.

RE: Stanford Players in MLB - Nobadeer - 07-28-2026

Stowers is now up to 13 HR, 19 doubles and 45 RBI for the Marlins.

For the D-Backs (currently 9.5 games ahead of the Giants), Tim Tawa has 4 HR, 8 doubles and 20 RBI, in 121 at bats.

Tommy Troy went on the IL earlier this month with a shoulder injury after crashing into the outfield wall at Dodger stadium. He had 4 HR and 9 RBI before the injury.

Braden Montgomery has 3 HR, 10 doubles and 20 RBI in 39 games for the ChiSox.

Q Matthews made his MLB debut today and gave up 2 earned runs in 5 innings of work.

Some more color

Unfortunately, he didn’t get the run support needed for a W.

MLB trade deadline today, and it's reported that Kris Bubic has been traded to the mighty LA Dodgers.

And Erik Miller, who I saw pitch on tv just yesterday at Petco Park, has reportedly been traded by SFG to the Red Sox.

If true, quite an upgrade for both of them.

Always liked Miller. In six plate appearances against Ohtani, he struck him out five times and gave up a weak infield single.

Watching Dodgers vs D’backs, there was potential for up to 4 alumni (Bubic is injured so can’t play) have their names mentioned ( Bubic, Edman, Tawa, and Troy). The announcer said Tawa is a .200 hitter but bats .500 vs the Dodgers. Only Edman and Tawa in the game so far. Pretty cool.

RE: Stanford Players in MLB - Mick - 08-29-2026

Tawa's doing a nice job at 1B.

Watched the D'Backs vs. Giants game the other day. The home plate umpire, Nathan Porter, was challenged 14 times, with nine reversals, second most in MLB this year.

BTW, you could time Eldridge with a sun dial the way he runs.

RE: Stanford Players in MLB - magnus - 08-29-2026

Brendan Beck was the 27th man today and closed out the Yankees win in game 2 with a clean inning.

RE: Stanford Players in MLB - Spike - 09-03-2026

Quinn Matthews goes against Skubal and the Dodgers tonight in LA

RE: Stanford Players in MLB - Mick - 09-03-2026

34-year-old Austin Slater has one of the best career stolen base percentages (86.9%, 53 of 61, ranking 7th among active major leaguers with at least 50 attempts).

In the 2.5 years since he's left the Giants, Slater has played for the Reds and Orioles (2024), White Sox and Yankees (2025), and Mets, Rays and Marlins (2026). He's currently with the Rays' AAA team (Durham) where he's slashing .308/.410/.451/.861.

RE: Stanford Players in MLB - old spanish trail - 09-04-2026

Quantrill started and pitched 7 shutout innings, I think.

RE: Stanford Players in MLB - Nobadeer - 09-04-2026

After a homer-less August, Stowers homered on Sept. 1 and 2, giving him 18 for the season. Also 24 doubles and 59 RBI. Marlins are in the NL wild card race.

Mathews grinded for 5 innings - throwing 99 pitches, giving up 4 walks & 4 hits (2 to Tommy Edman - although 1 of those on a blooper that should have been caught), but only 1 run. St. Louis led 2-1 with 1 out in the bottom of the 9th - then the Cardinal bullpen did their best impersonation of the SF Giants. Edman got a single and stole 2nd. After Mookie Betts walked, Teoscar Hernandez doubled - game over, Dodgers win 3-2.

Mathews is scheduled to start on Tuesday vs the Giants and Blade Tidwell in SF.

He got his 1st MLB win last Friday vs. the Pirates.
