so looking at State populations in increasing order and places where I think golf is less popular I'd guess either New Mexico or West Virginia

The Greenbrier in West Virginia has hosted a number of tournaments.  

New Mexico is #9.

In professional sports, there are occasional forfeits.  What is the automatic score of the forfeits in these sports, for contests that do not begin?

Football / NFL
Soccer / MLS

Don't know about the others, but baseball is 9-0 (based on # of innings, so may vary at levels that play less than 9 innings).

Ralph Boston is correct.  Then he and Igor Ter-Ovanesyan traded the record back-and-forth until Bob Beamon shattered it at the Mexico City Olympics.

Also correct, NFL is 2-0.  NCAA, High School and CFL forfeits are 1-0.

FIBA (international basketball) is 20-0 for a forfeit, and 2-0 for a default (two different things).

There isn't a provision that I could find for an NBA forfeit.

Ice hockey is 1-0.

Traditionally, soccer's forfeit score is 3-0.

I looked it up, and figured that was the story… player traded to a team as part of a package that includes a “player to be named later”; for whatever reason, the team he is traded to decides to name him the “player to be named later”, and he goes back to the team he started with.

Almost Giants. Dodgers opened with another player behind the plate. That player only appeared 25 times that year. The Dodgers were seeking a new catcher because Campy was paralyzed that winter.

I have a pre game photo of that day. My father with camera and me behind him with a camera log(shot list). As all the newsreel cameraman during those times he wore a sports jacket and tie and (and before CI says something funny) slacks. Nowadays even reporters dress casually (unprofessional IMO).

Giants won 8-0.

What player chased Reuben Gomez across the field swinging a bat during a game a few seasons before?
