As a recovering A's fan, I've been rooting for Bob Melvin since he rescued Oakland years ago. I was happy for him when he escaped John Fisher purgatory and got his dream  job in San Diego. So, yes, I continue to pull for him. I'm not a Dodger hater like I was before, during and after the '88 Series. But it would be really cool if the Padres beat LA. I still want to puke when I see gimpy Gibson on his HR trot.

Not another covert mission to a CIA Black Site Lex?

On Yaz... nope, nope, nope, nope, nope..... Overmatched all year. May need glasses because if you really watch him he's not picking up the ball.

I don't get the love affair with Slater. Must be something akin to the syndrome of Shawpology, so it's Slaterpology. Takes too many strikes. Fizzes in the clutch. A sixth OF on a decent team meaning he's an AAA player. The Giants can do better. And your guy Gonzalez? A baseball IQ of a slug. I've played kickball with better baserunners.

2023? Not going anywhere. Rather than a parade of dipshit rejects promote the youth. let THEM fail. And maybe learn.

I may not be right but I'm never wrong.

I've seen enough of Slater and Yaz. Losers. Dump em. Time to take a chance. 81 wins is pure shit these days.

90 wins is certainly enough to make the playoffs in this era.  And as the Phillies are demonstrating - just sneak into the playoffs and who knows how far you can go…

Actually, 87 was enough.  Six more wins, and the Giants would have been in, particularly with their 5-1 record against the Phillies this year. The Giants were 24-27 in one run games or games that went into extra innings this year.  In 2021, they were 35-19.  With that same record, they would have tied San Diego.

For me, the great frustration was that the Giants were 10-9 against the Dodgers last year, and 4-15 against the Dodgers this year. Ty Willingham was a mediocre coach who overreached with Notre Dame and Washington (and showed a jaw-dropping lack of class) but at least he beat Cal every year.

Don’t know what makes me happier- beating ND or the Dodgers CHOKE. Dave Roberts is by all accounts a terrific guy.  But he manages by computer. I didn’t see the game (haven’t seen any I’m on assignment :)).  But I note Anderson had given up 2 hits through 5.  And gets lifted?  Why?  Pitch count?  Third time through the order?  In any even you leave 4 innings for your pen. If 1 doesn’t have it - trouble fast.

That’s why I like Bochy. He would have gone with his gut based on how Anderson was throwing the ball. Not based on some computer program.

Dodgers Achilles Heel is the lack of any starter that can get deep in games.  Urias comes close.  That’s it.

And here’s news - Dodgers season is a bigger disappointment than  Giants.

Pads-Guardians series!!

Sports Nirvana Trifecta -- Stanford beats ND, Dotchers go home for the rest of the year, $C loses 43-42 to Utah.  The 3 teams I most love to see lose, lost.

I’m pulling for Dusty’s Astros.  It would be his ticket to the Hall.

Bochy is in line for the Texas Rangers job.  Rumor is he's close to getting it.

Let's add Cal's loss to Colorado and make it a quad-fecta.

RE: 2022 Giants thread - BostonCard - 10-16-2022

As a long suffering Pads fan, I couldn’t be happier.  Was sweating much of the game until the seventh, but even when we tied at three and had men on first and third with no outs: strike out, foul out, and I thought we were going to leave the runners stranded.  Clutch two out single plates the game winning run.

What a day: Stanford and San Diego both win; Bears, Trojans, Irish, and Dodgers all lose.  That is winning the emotional trifecta.

I'm not generally a Phillies fan, but the firm I work for is based in Philadelphia, and we're going to be in Miami for a retreat this week. We also have a very large New York office with Yankee season tickets.  To accommodate the Phillie and Yankee fans, we've got a roomful of televisions.

Aren’t the Yankee fans being a bit presumptuous?

RE: 2022 Giants thread - Phogge - 10-16-2022

I was a big fan of Herb Score. Some measure of karma here. A Yank (Gil McDougald of SF Commerce High, and a great guy) hit the ball that basically derailed a HOF career.

Indians/Padres. I can't abide Guardians. I love Dusty but f*** the cheaters.

What ex-Seal manager who once hit .399 managed the Padres?

Dusty wasn’t part of that.  The culprits are largely gone.  Plus, let’s face it cheating in baseball is as American as apple pie.

LA fans and media are coming apart at the seams over the “unfairness” of a 111 win team not being automatically crowned. I love it.

What they ought to be blaming is the computer that runs their games.  Not one starter getting past 5.  Had to pull Anderson cause Machado and Sosa coming up.  86;pitches. Gosh, his arm must have been hanging by a thread. This with an essentially beat up and/or untried bullpen.

I read an article in SI discussing how tRoberts essentially has no latitude. He was 45 minutes late for pre game presser cause the FA was laying out the game for him. It’s tremendously unfair to him.

In any event, I can hear the weeping and gnashing of teeth from where I sit. In Germany…..Music sweeter than Beethoven.

Yep.  217 wins over two seasons with neither yielding an appearance in the World Series and a composite luxury tax bill of roughly $70 million.   What a waste…..

Except if you look at the team value.  Which continues to climb….
