This (charter travel) isn't rocket science - beats trying to book travel for a party of 20+ on a commercial carrier by a mile.
Correct. The team is flying charter to all of its games this season. Last season, for trips to the east coast, even though the team had chartered a plane, it was smaller and had to stop to refuel. This made the trip longer and interrupted sleep/study. If memory serves, last year's planes also didn't have wifi, (or reliable wifi).
This year, they upgraded to a bigger plane so that they could fly non-stop.
Wish this could be true for all Stanford teams. WBB has it thanks to a generous donor.

As stated before, I believe (as many of you do), that Coach Paye will be given a third year to turn things around for the Cardinal women.
If that indeed happens, a question to all of my fellow posters that I don't have an answer for- What (realistically) would be all that different about the 2026-27 team that will somehow make them more competitive, not just against the elite ACC teams, but more consistently competitive and defeat the middle of the pack teams?
For Stanford to be more competitive in the ACC, some fundamental things must change, but based on what I've seen over the last two seasons, I just don't see much change happening.
Your thoughts?

The freshmen (assuming they come back) will have had a year to develop. I think at least some of what looked like bad coaching was simply freshmen inexperience. I hope they will be back next year to test the hypothesis.

I agree. So the first thing is going to be player retention.. 2nd will be trusting players and player development. Kate didn’t really utilize her bench. I also think using the same starting lineup used at end of season to start next season will be key. Shay brings a lot of energy and energy was lacking in a lot of games. For the team, less passing around the perimeter without making moves to the basket and being to hesitant. Also, it’ll be nice to see some of the pressing defense Stanford did occasionally because it was key is 4th quarter against Miami. I don’t know much about coaching the game or the X’S and O’s and all I have is passion and just want the team to succeed. Next year is probably the make or break year and and hope it’s make.

Stanford was 1-13 when opponents scored 66 or more points. Defense just has got to improve if they want better results.
Also I was disappointed with the guard play. Clardy had an assist to TO ratio of 1.2 to 1 this season after 1.67 to 1 last year. Swain was 0.6 to 1. The offense really needed a trigger to make it go that Stanford did not have.

I guess it depends on how you define primary conference. Does Notre Dame fit that description? (LOL) UConn is also football independent with the other sports in the Big East. And recently, Sac State announced a football-only affiliation with the MAC (Mid-American Conference), with most of the other sports going to the Big West conference. Army, Navy, UMass, Missouri State, Kennesaw State, Villanova, Northern Illinois, UC-Davis, North Dakota State, Sacred Heart, and William & Mary all have football affiliations different from the rest of their athletic department.

My understanding is that it would be difficult to impossible for a Stanford team to not compete in the ACC conference if the ACC sponsors that sport. Obviously, ND has a special deal with the ACC. What are the chances that the ACC would let Stanford just pick and choose? Certainly not in the most significant sports.

Maybe if Susan Rice had been able to convince Kiki Rice to join Lauren Betts at Stanford, and we had been able to give Betts a better home, they would be seniors here. Meanwhile, I watched a qtr of UCLA vs Iowa today and hadn't realized they also picked up Utah's Knepkens(sp) and that terrific Wash State pg from NZealand. Yikes. That's 3 pretty good guards.

I think that shows us that basketball is what sets one's primary conference. Even with football driving the bus, wherever you put basketball is where you put everything else that you can (with ND football being the famous exception.)

You are talking about Gianna (Utah) and Charlisse (WSU). I met Gianna and her family in Columbus after they defeated Ohio State in an incredibly close game during pre-conference. She and Charlisse have been the difference makers in UCLA's attack. Charlisse is a better ball handler than Kiki and has a stronger frame. She lacks the explosiveness of Rice, but she can weave her way to the basket and absorb more contact. Gianna shoots the hell out of the ball. Bruins did not have a player like her in the last few seasons.

You probably noticed that Duke men's basketball is a good bet to win the NCAA championship. Their starting lineup has 3 freshman. Besides their obvious talent, having watched them crush Stanford at Maples, I can say that the way they played, on both O and D, reflected having learned a heck of a lot, e.g., about cutting on O and switching on D, from the Duke coaching staff. Presumably you're not claiming that your hypothesis holds only for women's teams. Great coaching makes a big difference for frosh of both genders.
RE: WBB: ACC Tournament -
BostonCard - 03-09-2026
Strangely enough, the top minute getters in the Duke
women's team are a senior (85.9% of available minutes), a senior (84.7%), a sophomore (72.4%), a sophomore (71%), a junior (66.9%) and another junior (46.4%). The top freshman in terms of minutes got 39.1% of available minutes, which is comparable to what Eschmeyer got (35.6%).
Similar story with UConn, the #1 ranked team, whose top freshman only got 37.9% of minutes (8th on the team). UCLA is even more extreme; the top 6(!) players in terms of minutes (Rice, Jaquez, Kneepkens, Leger-Walkwer, Betts, and Dualić) are all seniors. The top two freshman (Bilic, and Sienna Betts, the #3 ranked recruit in the country, got under 30% of available minutes each. #3 Texas is much the same, the top 8 players by playing time are sophomores, juniors, and seniors. #4 South Carolina's top 6 players in minutes all have at least a year in the program; the top freshman gets 33.6% of available minutes. I'm not going to go through all the top women's basketball teams, but at least through LSU, none feature a freshman getting more than 50% of available minutes or being amongst the top-5 on her team in minutes. In fact, of the top-10 teams in the country (using Bart Torvik's ratings), only one, Vanderbilt, has a freshman getting more than 50% of available minutes or being one of the top-5 players by minutes on her team; Stanford featured 2 such players.
I don't think what the Duke men's team is able to do (or even what the Stanford men's team with Okorie) is relevant to Stanford women's basketball.

If I had to bet, I would bet they lose to Yukon in the championship game.
It certainly is an all star team, and like many successful teams these days, the majority of their starting lineup started out at other schools.
As far as Betts and Rice are concerned, they will probably cry all the way to the bank on their various sources of income.

ACC is making up for a poor OOC with an extremely strong post season - there will be five teams in the Sweet Sixteen: Duke, Louisville, and UNC, as well as Notre Lame and UVA who beat their hosts Ohio St and Iowa, respectively. Suddenly feeling a little bit better about having lost to four out of five of them...
