Cleveland vs NY... would be a lot more fun with Feller vs Reynolds. Or Lemon vs Ford. Instead we get Bieber. Isn't he a pop star? And Cortes? Didn't he do something to Montezuma?

At least Wheeler was once a rising star in the Giants organization. There's that.

That was just a grim, grim season, 2011. Posey and Freddy Sanchez lost for the season with injuries. They traded Wheeler for 2 months of Carlos Beltran, who was supposed to replace Posey's production, and he did -- when he was healthy. He went on the DL for 13 games with a wrist strain. Closer Brian Wilson threw only five games over the last two months of the season because of an elbow problem, and Sergio Romo missed 16 games with an elbow issue. Pablo Sandoval missed 47 games with a broken hamate bone and his own elbow problems. 2010 heroes Cody Ross, Aubrey Huff, Pat Burrell, Aaron Rowand, Nate Schierholtz and Andres Torres all performed poorly. Rookie Brandon Crawford batted .204. And Jeremy Affeldt sliced up his hand trying to separate meat patties with a knife.
The Giants went 25-32 over the last 32 games of the season. They had a 4 game lead on July 29. They went 3-11 and coughed up the lead for good.Terrible year.

So, AL pits two top regular season teams. Someone tell Dodger fans. It’s not the format…..

Somebody tell the Dodgers, Braves, Mets and Cardinals. The top four NL seeds were all eliminated. #5 Padres is playing #6 Phillies. The Phillies have a 1-0 game lead. And the Giants beat the Phillies 5-1 in their season series. It's a crazy world...

MLB is the only sport where the best regular season team losing in playoffs isn't shocking.
The Phillies are kind of the poster child for why. The Giants won in 2014 with just one dominant starter and a very good bullpen. The Phillies have two dominant starters, and a decent bullpen, so of course they can win it all too.
I'm still not putting too much stock in their 2-0 Game 1 win. The Padres had to be feeling the biggest hangover ever after their clinching win against the Fodgers a couple days earlier. I mean Wheeler was great, but the Padres were also understandably flat. I expect them to win today and even things up heading to Philly, but Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper getting hot at the same time is a scary proposition for the Pads.

It’s an old article, but as of 2008:
Teams that won the Super Bowl with the most wins during regular-season:
1960s: 1 of 4 (25%)
1970s: 8 of 10 (80%)
1980s: 6 of 10 (60%)
1990s: 4 of 10 (40%)
2000s: 2 of 8 (25%)

Bochy agrees to manage the Rangers.
Good luck to Bruce - Texas (née Washington Senators v.2) is the oldest “expansion” franchise to never win a World Series. In fact, only the Cleveland Guardians have a longer World Series championship drought.

It said lots of bad things about the Dodgers. I now feel more relaxed than after a therapeutic massage.
