I forgot Flores and the Chiefs

Name the four super bowl winning coaches who won and played for the team they coached to the win ?

Yes Flores of course three more

Gary Kubiak and Doug Pederson most recently.

RE: Sports trivia thread - Phogge - 01-20-2022

Ditka, Flores, Kubiak for sure.

Maybe Dungy, Doug Pedersen.

RE: Sports trivia thread - BobK - 01-20-2022

Not Dungy my guess also but Doug Peterson
With Ditka, Flores and Kubiak

RE: Sports trivia thread - Giants - 01-20-2022

Next up…

Who is the only player to play on five consecutive losing Super Bowl teams?

RE: Sports trivia thread - Phogge - 01-20-2022

James Lofton.

Wrong Bay Area college, thank goodness.

RE: Sports trivia thread - yvonne - 01-20-2022

No, he is definitely a Stanford man. He played under Bill Walsh and held several records. He earned a BS in industrial engineering in 1978.

Edit: He's still No. 1 in Stanford receiving touchdowns!

Here's his Pro Football Hall of Fame page: https://www.profootballhof.com/players/james-lofton/

but he's not the player who was on five consecutive losing Super Bowl teams, that player went to another Bay Area School

Thanks, that's what I was saying, I'm glad the player who lost five in a row went to a different Bay Area school, not Stanford.

RE: Sports trivia thread - yvonne - 01-20-2022

Ah, got it.

RE: Sports trivia thread - Phogge - 01-20-2022

Craig Morton? Gale Gilbert? Jim Breech?

RE: Sports trivia thread - BobK - 01-20-2022

Good one. Gilbert of the three

Of course, the other side of that coin comes from baseball…

I just wish I could remember who said it…

When asked about all the losses he was ringing up one year, the pitcher responded (paraphrasing), “I must be doing something right, they keep giving me the ball every four days”.

I would imagine that Dan Fouts would love to have had just one chance to play in the game.

RE: Sports trivia thread - Phogge - 01-20-2022

Hey got it! Wonder if Gilbert got any snaps in any of the five games.

Cal has had a bunch of very good QB's. Not up to Stanford standards but:

Paul Larson, Joe Kapp, Morton, Rich Campbell, Bartkowski, Ferragamo, Joe Roth, Boller, Rodgers. And Stanford killer J Torchio.

Gilbert only played in one Super Bowl (SF v. San Diego).

Jared Goff?

Ironically Dan Fouts and Philip Rivers never played in the Super Bowl for the Chargers but Stan Humphries and Gale Gilbert did.

Two Baseball Hall of Famers were also high school teammates.

Who are they?
