Lowell and Poly used to play the Little Big Game back when Joe Verducci was coaching at Poly.
In the 1953 tie 21-21 Stanford was knocked out of the Rose Bowl. UCLA 6-1 in the PCC, Stanford 5-1-1 with a win over UCLA.

Speaking of championship game monikers, I was reading how the Super Bowl got its name. The announcers of the Stanford v. Cal game I'm watching claimed that the NFL/AFL owners wanted to call their championship "The Big Game" but Stanford and Cal demurred. Couldn't find any evidence of that. I did read four separate articles that claimed:
The Big One
Pro Bowl
World Series of Football
AFL/NFL Championship Game (Rozelle's idea -- apparently what they settled on, and they used it for the first three games, until Lamar Hunt came up with the Super Bowl)
Ultimate Bowl
Premier Bowl
This story claims that the media -- specifically the New York Times -- had called it the Super Bowl from the very first game.

Was somewhat annoyed by Fox calling the Michigan Ohio State game "The Game". Sorry, but no. The Game is exclusively for the Harvard Yale game. Even Google agrees, start typing Harvard Yale, and a link to The Game pops up.

Skip got it.
Wardrobe created jerseys and hats that were backwards and Gehrig threw and hit right handed. The original 35mm negative was optically duped and essentially flipped. Issues of base and emulsion were resolved but that’s probably too much knowledge for the Car$board.

Blanda came out of Kentucky to the Bears. Never played in the AAFC.
Tell them about the Cal and Stanford guys Bob. One of them played three innings in the OF and pinch hit. He also threw a memorable pass in the Big Game. Who caught it?
