In the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Senegal and Japan finished group play with an equal number of points and goals.  Which team advanced and what was the tiebreaker used to decide?

Educated guess - Japan advanced on "fair play" points (fewer yellow and red cards).

RE: Sports trivia thread 2022 - Mick - 12-11-2022

A few years before the introduction of the "live" baseball, there were two pitchers who hit so well that they transitioned into full time hitter/fielders. Their 1918 hitting statistics (batting average, total bases, RBIs) were virtually identical. One was Babe Ruth. Who was the other? Hint: at one time, he had been a teammate of Ruth's.

RE: Sports trivia thread 2022 - BobK - 12-11-2022

No idea on 1918 but later Stan Musial while in the minors and lefty O’Doul

Edit actually about 1919 it could be O’Doul

RE: Sports trivia thread 2022 - Phogge - 12-11-2022

It is O'Doul.

RE: Sports trivia thread 2022 - Mick - 12-12-2022

It was Smoky Joe Wood.  Terrific pitcher, career 117-57, played with Ruth on the Red Sox in 1914 and 1915.

In 1918, Wood was playing for Cleveland and it was Wood's first full season as a batter. He equaled Ruth in batting average (.296/.300), RBIs (66/61), total bases (176/170) and runs scored (41/50).
