You beat me to it; almost as obnoxious as Mulkey at times.  I thought Baylor mismanaged the clock in the waning moments of the game.

South Dakota was money at the foul line in the second half.

RE: WBB NCAA tournament - BostonCard - 03-20-2022

In the end, the South Dakota/Baylor game score wasn’t that close: 61-47.  Tough day for 2 seeds, with both Iowa and Baylor losing.  I wouldn’t mind if a third two seed were knocked out.

It would be nice if none of the remaining two seeds did not win another game under their respective coaches

RE: WBB NCAA tournament - BostonCard - 03-20-2022

Gonzaga fell to #1 Louisville, but gave the Cardinals a tough game, 68-59.

Collen, Baylor coach, in presser:
- they were really, really phsyical
- we're a finesse team
-their center was holding when posting up the entire team
- our guards are too short (in reference to inability to make 3s)
- I can coach  with anybody in country

I have to say that I noticed a definite change in Baylor coach's style.  The entire bench staff wore matching shirts (sweats?).  Really plain ones at that.   I wondered if that was a decision made by the coach, or by the school.

Then I wondered if LSU has to pay for their coach's game-day outfits or if she has to pay for them out of her salary.

Wow, I'm surprised she doesn't!

They don't look like they cost much.  The look like thrift store purchases.

Fascinating set of incentives. Took particular note that there's an incentive for academic performance, but a very small one compared to all the rest.

RE: WBB NCAA tournament - martyup - 03-21-2022

LSU players are clearly coached to jump into their defenders when driving to the basket.  It reminds me of McDonald from AZ last season.  They also complain about every call that goes against them, which is not surprising given the antics of their coach.

UConn has looked really mediocre vs UCF who has to be one of the worst offensive teams I’ve seen and plays just ugly basketball. I foresee NC State handling Notre Dame and I believe has a chance to beat UConn in the Elite 8 if they play their game.

UConn is getting plenty of shots but their shooting average for this game is terrible.  ( I think the announcer just said 30%)  I'm rooting for UCF just because they are so scrappy.

RE: WBB NCAA tournament - 81alum - 03-21-2022

Wow, UConn at home looked pedestrian.  I wish they were the Spokane 2 instead of Texas.

Some of it tonight was style of play. Uconn plays very free flowing offensively and UCF mucked the game up and played a stymied zone and Uconn didn't look good as a result. I know Uconn has all the talent but I've had a different sentiment than many on this board about their chances. It's hard to just turn it on the last 4 weeks of the season when they're finally healthy and win the title when other teams have been building cohesion and chemistry all year. Bueckers also maybe isn't 100%. She didn't look like it tonight. It's hard to say.  Maybe they will still win it all, who knows, but my bet is NOT on Uconn to win the title.

AZ is getting crushed at home - UNC is dropping hammer.  I like Barnes, but she somehow has a lineup on the floor that can't shoot - either midrange or treys.  It is really kind of sad.

More generally, the flame out of the Pac 12 is not giving me warm fuzzies for Stanford's overall chances . . .

RE: WBB NCAA tournament - magnus - 03-21-2022

Just noticed LSU got crushed by OSU. (Based on final score )

Yeah, to the extent that “putting your money where your mouth is” is indicative of the school’s priorities, it is clear that academics are worth a lot less to LSU than, for example, winning the SEC championship.

It is also unsettling me.  However, I am reminded of all those years when the Pac 12 was a doormat except for Stanford and still Stanford made regular trips to the final 4.  Tara always scheduled a ridiculous out of conference schedule to make up for it.  I wonder if we are drifting back that way.  The last time we played Maryland in Spokane was exactly such a season--and we were slighted and given a 2 seed because of the weakness of the Pac 12 schedule.

So while our achievements in the Pac 12 may not be a good barometer of our strength as a team--we have done nothing to prove we are not championship material either.  But I agree that the warm fuzzies following our conference season have vanished.

RE: WBB NCAA tournament - BostonCard - 03-21-2022

This was a bad year for the PAC-12, but based on recruiting, one would anticipate the PAC-12 to be the top conference in the country in a couple years.  the the sheer amount of talent that is coming in this fall is impressive.
