USA somehow survived a *4 minute* Australia "power play" in the first half and came back to equalize by the end of regulation, and then won in "PKs".

Tony Azevedo is doing a terrific job on color commentary for NBC's water polo coverage alongside Kenny Albert on play-by-play.

What's up with that creepy Torri Huske commercial they keep showing?  Its the worst!

RE: Stanford at the 2024 Paris Olympics (now with results) - Nobadeer - 08-08-2024

That Toyota/Huske ad was actually filmed at the Avery pool on the LSJU campus!

Dwight Powell played over 22 mins per game, averaging 6+ pts and nearly 6 rebs for Canada.

Oscar Da Silva not getting on the court very much for Germany.

We're now at 27 medalists (tying the record of 27 set in 2016 in Rio). We're going to pick up at least five more with one alum in each of the women's volleyball and women's water polo finals and three alums in the women's soccer finals, plus a chance for even more medals in several other sports (e.g., men's water polo, men's volleyball, women's water polo, artistic swimming, and track & field).

Do we know why Aria Fischer didn't make the team? I know her sister Makenzie has retired.

Both Mackenzie and Aria did retire.    Well deserved, after many years of hard work and dominating performances.

It looks like the Nigerian 4 x 100 relay didn't advance to the finals, where Udodi likely would have been on the track.

The Nigerians ran 38.20, which would've won semifinal heat 2. Only problem was, they were in heat 1, the much faster heat . . .  and finished 7th. Per the usual rules, the top 3 teams from each heat advanced, plus the next 2 fastest teams. So, from the fast heat 1, the top 5 (USA, RSA, GBR, Japan, Italy) advanced, along with the top 3 (China France Canada) from slow heat 2, leaving Nigeria on the outside.

Shoot. I was looking forward to their advance.

the US men's water polo team loses to Serbia and will play vs either Greece or Australia in the bronze medal game

RE: Stanford at the 2024 Paris Olympics (now with results) - Treebound - 08-09-2024

So it sounds like we are assured of at least 5 more medals (ideally gold!) from Plummer for WVB, and Tierna, Girma and Sophia, (women's soccer),  and 1 for Jackovich for Australia's WWP team.   If the men's and women's WoPo teams win bronze that would be another 8, plus another potential bronze in men's volleyball for Shoji!  With golf and other sports, we could top 40 medals!  Wow!  sc is only showing 2....they will win more, but let's pass them!

Katie Ledecky and rower Nick Mead have been selected to carry the flag during the Olympics closing ceremonies. Our family is particularly happy since Katie is a Stanford alum and Nick is a Princeton alum, so both of our educational bases are covered…
