Argentina and England hate each other with more intensity because of the war for the Malvinas/Falklands.
Argentinians are to Latin America as what the French are to many countries...snooty, full of themselves, and with a superiority complex.
It's the landing place of many Germans and Italians after WW2. I've met a few of them, most are good people. However, they do have a higher percentage of blowhards than any other country from the Americas in my experience.
I'm not a hu-ge fan of the Spaniards (conquistadores) either, but they are the lesser of 2 evils at this time for me. I don't want to imagine Argentinians with back-to-back World Cup championships.

I had an Argentinian boss once. Didn't like that I went by "Mick" so he referred to me as "Michael"...as did all of his direct reports and others in the firm. So thereafter, I was known as "Michael" for the few years that I worked at that firm. Never had the huevos to insist that a subordinate change his name, but...Argentinians.

And then of course there is Messi. The greatest of all time. Smallest guy on almost every pitch he's played on. After 2022, I suspected he would be back for this, though I envisioned a different role. France has no midfield, and England is turning takeaways into quick attacks leading to countless scoring opportunities.
4-0 at the half is just bonkers. France is obviously dispirited after losing the semi, but I didn't see this disparity coming.

When the announcer compared it to an all star game he was exactly correct. Finishes 6-4. Not a score you see every day let alone in the World Cup - even a third place game. Though France v West Germany got close. 6:3 in…. 1958.

I thought Argentina would be dominated in the final, but I expected France to be the team doing it.
Spain earned this second star. Argentina can't say the game was stolen as they had zero offense in 110 minutes. Only when they went down did they start to show some offensive competency.

Scaloni's tactics were bizarre. They sat Paredes, their best midfielder this WC, and completely surrendered the midfield to try a play a counter attacking game with Nico Gonzalez, which is not their wheelhouse and did not work.
Then in the second half, they brought on Simeone, who can really only run and foul, instead of Lautaro Martinez, a legimitate world class striker who I'd much have preferred taking that last shot that Simeone skied over the bar.
In any case, Spain clearly the better side today and really during the whole WC, and only Dibu kept the scoreline respectable.
Bores me to death when they do it right, but possessing the ball, counter pressing up high, they just snuff out teams ability to attack at all, very impressive display.

Paredes played the entire second half and extra time; didn't seem to make much of a difference. I did think it was odd that Martinez, who had goals against Switzerland and England, didn't get put in. But I think the strategy, especially after going a man down, was to play for penalties. They almost pulled it off too, and the way Dibu was playing, you would have liked their chances in a penalty shootout.

Any comments on the fight after the game? Any thoughts why Paredes went after the Spanish players? Seemed to me he was delivering a bunch of cheap shots during the game, but really stunned at his behavior, and that of some of his teammates, after the match. Not a great way to send Messi off at the end of a special career.

Maybe can’t tar everyone, but Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina and sometimes others - par for the course. And certainly you can see much the same in Central America.
