(10-03-2015, 11:17 PM)garvin link Wrote:The high-water mark of the second half for Arizona came just over three minutes into the game, when the Wildcats stopped Stanford for the first and only time. They trailed 48-17 at the time, Kevin Hogan and Christian McCaffrey had long since departed for the bench, and Stanford had scored on nine consecutive possessions, but hey, it counted.
We logged 570 yards of total offense despite playing with second-stringers for nearly the entire fourth quarter. Otherwise, we might have broken 80. During most of the third quarter, every Stanford running play looked like it was about one step of breaking free for a touchdown. And sometimes less than one: Barry Sanders took off around right tackle for a 65-yard TD with 1:25 left in the quarter. (I cracked up at the drive statistics the Pac-12 Network flashed on the screen: one play, 18, seconds, 65 yards.)
We averaged 8.3 yards a snap. Kevin Hogan was 17 of 19 for 217 and two touchdowns, yet his 220.1 QB rating was only second-best on the team. Keller Chryst, when he wasn't pancaking Arizona DBs, rolled up a 264.4 rating on four for four passing for 39 yards and a TD. (Ryan Burns got in the game, too, though it was too far gone for David Shaw to allow him to pass.)
I think it's going to be a long season for Arizona if Anu Solomon can't come back quickly. (He didn't even make the trip.) Jerrard Randall -- though he finished with 178 yards passing, a figure inflated by a meaningless drive at the end of the third quarter when the game was out of reach -- has too much of a scattershot arm for anybody to respect. He made some nice throws, but he missed a lot of others, including two deep ones that were certain TDs and several short ones that should have been slam dunks.
So, we're off until the UCLA game, 12 days from now. By that time, we might have Hogan back to something close to 100 percent. Or, as Shaw might say, he will no longer have "pretty good coloration" on his ankle, which is apparently millenial coach-speak for "bruise," if the TV guys are to be believed. Question: Do we want that? He's barely practiced for the past two games while going a combined 26 of 33 for four touchdowns and 380 yards and just one interception. Maybe he should just go to class the rest of the quarter and show up only at game time?
Just go to class, Kevin, relax, and wear the VR headset to bed.

Yep, who would have thought, in the wake of the NW game, we would make this kind of turnaround.
Just hope the ship keeps sailing and there aren't any icebergs out there.

I knew that Keller Chryst blocking looked familiar. As long as they don't start calling him Sunshine ...

Looks like Keller had two good blocks on that play. Honorary member of TWU?

Anybody know the song they're referring to? (curious to see what the board software thinks of it as well....)

An Arizona player coming out of the tunnel for the second half asked to see the sign I was holding, and after reading it for a few seconds said "That's too long to read". I replied, "Not for our players".

My guess would be a Two Live Crew song with a euphemism that refers both to cats and female genitalia. But that is actually a late 80's song. The hook goes "Say hey we want some-------"
It's gotta be "Crimson and Clover" - Redrum - 10-04-2015
I know that I'd certainly shoot anyone who played it at a football game I attended. Of course, I'd shoot anyone
anywhere who played it and I had the power to do something about it.

Careful, Redrum, that can get you investigated these days.

Trying to think of songs with possibly offensive titles from back in my ban days, all I can think of is the teaser of Sublime's Date Rape. I'm not sure the band still plays it, and definitely not sure anyone would recognize it...

I'm going with The Divinyls 1991 hit, "I Touch Myself."
Sure hope somebody can fill us in on the correct answer.

Back in my bar tending days Redrum my Karaoke set included exclusively 3 Two Live Crew songs and 2 LL Cool J songs. Please don't shoot me.

Good to know, as always Garvin I bow to your "institutional knowledge" on the board.

I got the answer from the article writer, Ryan Finley (because I'm just that curious that I had to email him to ask what the song was). He said:
They played the first few bars of Sublimes Date Rape following a stop in the first half. Thanks for the kind words. From a game-day perspective, I love Stanfords stadium and adore the band. And no team in the league is more to fun to watch when theyre going good.
Ooh. Yeah, that's inappropriate.

Good call CZC! I do recall the band playing a few bars of it, though I don't think I've ever heard it in its entirety. Solid little interlude piece for LSJUMB.

How much of the song if a few bars? I mean, is that really a thing to complain about. It's not like the song is pro-date-rape, and regardless, it's not like they sing any of the words. Sublime's a ska band, they are going to have some riffs that are catchy for bands to play.
Does the writer also complain about Rock and Roll Part 2 given Gary Glitter's criminal history?
