Stanford in the NFL on Sunday Night -

Niners dismantled the Packers tonight, 37-8. Guess that whole meme about the Niners' weak early season schedule necessitated losses against the 8-2 teams they would play doesn't really work.
Stanford alum Blake Martinez had a nice sack, a TFL and six tackles.
Niners put on a tackling clinic tonight. Open field, TFL, five sacks, and the like. The Cardinal players and coaching staff could do worse than to watch this game on auto-repeat. Or just watch Fred Warner (11 tackles).
Sherman had two penalties, both of which were fairly borderline, I thought. He complained about three PI calls last week. I'm sure it didn't influence the refs this week at all.
Speaking of which, Aaron Rodgers whines -- a lot. Very irritating. Of course, he was 20 of 33 for 104 yards and 1 TD. His 3.2 yards/pass was the lowest of his career. Five sacks, two hits, six hurries and a 75.8 rating. Garoppolo, on the other hand, was 14 of 20 for 253 yards and 2 TDs for a 145.8 rating.
Garoppolo's TD pass was to George Kittle who was open by ten yards BECAUSE GAROPPOLO LOOKED OFF THE DEFENSE. Remember that, Cardinal quarterbacks.
Levine Toilolo was inactive. Chase Thomas got into the game, but had no tackles.
BTW, I don't think the Niners' wasted the 4th round pick on Wishnowsky. He punted for a 45.5 yard average, and puts most kickoffs in the end zone. Seems to be worth it.

Well, I can comment that the Niners could have saved the 4th round pick for another player - by drafting Jake Bailey later
in the 5th. Bailey was taken by the Pats at the end of that round. He's had his second AFC special teams player of the week honor.

I gather the 49ers worked out and considered both Bailey and Wishnowsky, and decided on Wishnowsky.

I'd ask other people in the Stanford program to look at that play to Kittle. To me, that's a prime example of scheming a player open. Wow, was that an impressive play from conception to completion.

I think Chase Thomas is on the 40 year decision route. However his brother by another mother Solomon played.
And Fred Warner in his second year is a better athlete than anyone on Stanford's roster. The Niners speed is incredible.

Kinda like they decided between Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers. SMH.

Here's the play:

Key was selling the fake, which got all the linemen flowing left, and James pulling the linebacker (Preston Smith) with him. Smith had a free avenue to the Garopolo, but I suspect if he had taken it, Garopolo would have dumped the ball off to James, who would have had a lot of grass ahead of him.

If you want some really good footage watch Inside the NFL on Showtime tomorrow night. Especially the topcamera stuff.

The Niners next opponent (Baltimore) dismantled the Rams tonight. I am really looking forward to watching that game on Sunday. Lamar Jackson may be the best quarterback in the league right now.
