Maybe this should be in one of two other treads but my thought. Please make corrections and of course additions as we get close to next week’s signing day
On scholarship at the end of November
81 per Langdude’s great chart
5 real graduates no eligible left
= 76
If we lose all 9 in the portal
= 67
Stratford retires
= 66 on scholarship today
We have 18 commits
So that’s 84.
Yes possible a player or two with eligibility doesn’t continue on scholarship and possible there is one and only one who doesn’t get accepted

EDIT: nevermind.
Still waiting on a few more transfers (and a couple more commits) though. Depending on NFL draft declarations we could end up above 80, which kind of feels like a miracle.

1 possible medical redshirt (Stratford)
1 juniors who could declare to the NFL (Adebo)
In the worst case scenario, we have 53 returning players, and 20 players coming in, which would put us at 73(!). In the best case, not everyone in the portal actually transfers, and Swann, Williams, Hattis, and Hamilton are back, and a couple players not in the portal yet who are not anticipated to contribute don't come back and we get a couple of late-breaking commits so that the class is more like 20-21.
If everyone in the portal transfers and we lose no one else, I think we will be at 84, 83 if you take the medical redshirt for granted.

Are there any statistics available on what percentage of players who enter the portal actually end up transferring? I know that last year, as of early May:
* 450 Power 5 had players entered the portal as of May 16, 2019.
* 240 were uncommitted.
* 40 were at least 4-star prospects.
* Only 92 (about 20%) of those 450 players had ended up at other Power 5 schools as of 5/16/19.
This was from an Athletic article. Of the 240 who hadn't committed, a significant number were destined to be backups, and coaches didn't really wan to take on backups. Some had been suspended or were disciplinary issues or had academic issues.

Another factor; coaches want to pull their scholies as soon as they enter the portal. This includes Herm Edwards of ASU.

The current count is 76 players with eligibility remaining, minus one who has accepted a transfer out plus 20 recruits coming in including EJ Smith, so that gets us to 95. That means we need at least 10 spots to materialize (perhaps a couple more if we have January signings). With 9 in the portal and waiting to hear from 9 more academic seniors and 2 academic juniors, we will not have a problem, but it is more a question of optimizing who comes back and who doesn't.

It depends on how you count players in the portal. If you assume they are all gone, then we are at 85 (I thought 86). If you don't count them as gone until they've signed with another school, we are at 95 (or 94).

We're expecting 1 more new c/o '20 signee in Feb, by the way. (I'm assuming your 20 counts Lance Keneley, who is committed but not signed.)
