RJ interviews Pritchard and
Collins (edit: Carroll; thanks Sam). Worth a read (and free, I think)

Carroll is the S&C coach.
Yes, very much worth the read.
Myself and a couple others on this board have noted the opportunity here to get much better at virtual visits for recruits who can't make the trip, and it looks like staff has taken that to heart. We have lost very highly-rated recruits from the Midwest/East Coast in the past because we refused to let them OV in the Spring and they didn't want to (or couldn't) pay for the cross-country trip.
I don't know if anything virtual can truly match the majesty of driving Palm Drive for the first time, but this is way better than de facto excluding poor kids...

Since we've talked about the implications of the recruiting changes before, the biggest takeaway for me from all that was the health of Branson Bragg. Does anyone here know what his injury was exactly? I thought it was an ankle and would have healed in plenty of time for scheduled 2020 pre-season practices.
Would it be too premature for me to say Tanner McKee will be the next QB to lead Stanford to a Rose Bowl?

You are quick to write Davis Mills off.

Speaking of majesty on first visits the drive onto the ASU campus offered hundreds of majestic views.

I was among the first on the Mills bandwagon - before he committed to Stanford - so it's not a function of me writing him off. I just don't see Stanford having the overall team needed to get to a Rose Bowl this year. And if Mills plays well in 2020, he would be crazy not to go to the NFL.
RE: Last year at the end of the day was not good enough -

Mills would have one year of eligibility left after this year. He could elect to go to the NFL, of course, but there is a chance he will be back in 2021.

Is it too late for a more aggressive recruiting effort to have an impact on the 2021 class? It looking dicey right now. Over the past few years, Stanford has signed a number of players in the 247Sports Top 300:
2016 - 5
2017 - 9 (but includes Sione Lund who transferred to Utah)
2018 - 4
2019 - 8
2020 - 5
Stanford is barely in the hunt for any remaining Top 300 recruits right now for 2021 and does not lead for any of them.

Now THAT is a good question. But, frankly, I'm just not sure if he has ever been very aggressive in his approach to recruiting, or anything else for that matter.

I'm not writing off Davis Mills. But I have written off David Shaw. Still, Mills must prove he can stay healthy. And win. A couple of things pretty fundamental to QB success. As for success this year? Chances: slim and none. Next man up...

Define "success"?

Success this year is simply a team that is improved and motivated and desires to get better every year. Hard to do with average talent.

For the Shaw bashers, success will be defined as more wins than whatever he ends up accomplishing.

If Shaw can get the program back to playing anywhere near the level the team played for the first five years of his head coaching tenure, my guess is most people on this board - myself included - will be thrilled.

OK, if success is defined as making a New Years Six bowl game (as Shaw did four of his first five years) I agree with you. Chances are pretty slim.

I hate to point out the obvious but COVID19 is going to destroy recruiting for Stanford football, and potentially other Stanford teams too.
There are likely other forces at work here in 2020, but I believe COVID19 will be rather detrimental to the recruiting efforts that we just can't ignore.. From the staff's inability to fly to the homes of recruits, to recruits potentially not loving the idea of taking AP classes during a pandemic just for a chance at getting into Stanford, to a rather strong desire by players and parents to stay closer to home just in case the campus closes or their child gets COVID19.
My guess is the HS players in this 2020/2021 signing group will have a very strong bias towards local schools.
If Coach Shaw and the staff can secure a strong class (Top 20) given the COVID19 headwinds I will be really impressed.

Amazing. You've already concocted your apologies for the future of football and thrown in the whole athletic program to boot! Now it's all about Covid-19. Shaw's hubris, managerial myopia and cavalier recruiting are conveniently swept under the coronavirus rug? The decline of the program is empirical fact. Shaw inherited a treasure, had four great years out of his first five and has essentially been vesting-in-place ever since. No replenishment of the legacy he was endowed with -- ZERO -- has taken us where we are today. Somebody in the conference will win big when football resumes. Chances are it will NOT be Shaw's team. Pandemic or no pandemic, his best years are behind him. Look at the evidence.

Years 6/7/8 we had 28 wins. Our top total since we’ll never over three yeasts except for previous Shaw seasons.
But I’ll give you some pop warner years when they played less games.
