Yes, very much worth the read. 

Myself and a couple others on this board have noted the opportunity here to get much better at virtual visits for recruits who can't make the trip, and it looks like staff has taken that to heart. We have lost very highly-rated recruits from the Midwest/East Coast in the past because we refused to let them OV in the Spring and they didn't want to (or couldn't) pay for the cross-country trip.

I don't know if anything virtual can truly match the majesty of driving Palm Drive for the first time, but this is way better than de facto excluding poor kids...

I was among the first on the Mills bandwagon - before he committed to Stanford - so it's not a function of me writing him off.  I just don't see Stanford having the overall team needed to get to a Rose Bowl this year. And if Mills plays well in 2020, he would be crazy not to go to the NFL.

I was among the first on the Mills bandwagon - before he committed to Stanford - so it's not a function of me writing him off.  I just don't see Stanford having the overall team needed to get to a Rose Bowl this year. And if Mills plays well in 2020, he would be crazy not to go to the NFL.

Is it too late for a more aggressive recruiting effort to have an impact on the 2021 class? It looking dicey right now. Over the past few years, Stanford has signed a number of players in the 247Sports Top 300:

2016 - 5
2017 - 9 (but includes Sione Lund who transferred to Utah)
2018 - 4
2019 - 8
2020 - 5

Stanford is barely in the hunt for any remaining Top 300 recruits right now for 2021 and does not lead for any of them.

There are likely other forces at work here in 2020, but I believe COVID19 will be rather detrimental to the recruiting efforts that we just can't ignore..   From the staff's inability to fly to the homes of recruits, to recruits potentially not loving the idea of taking AP classes during a pandemic just for a chance at getting into Stanford, to a rather strong desire by players and parents to stay closer to home just in case the campus closes or their child gets COVID19.

My guess is the HS players in this 2020/2021 signing group will have a very strong bias towards local schools. 

If Coach Shaw and the staff can secure a strong class (Top 20) given the COVID19 headwinds I will be really impressed.
