SJS down big in Arizona Bowl -
chrisk - 12-31-2020
SJS is missing units offensive and defensive coordinators and 6 key players.
They gave up 4 TDs to Ball State in the first quarter.

Maybe West Coast Football is just bad.

SJSU had a lot of people that could not participate. Reason(s) was(were) not disclosed, but seemed logical COVID-19 protocols were in play.
SJSU didn't have either coordinator, 2/5th of the OL, and a few other starters too. It seemed like a very late development, so that couldn't have helped much. Then early on the first drive SJSU lost a TE to a rather scary tackle.
They were completely blown out, but there were some challenges.

Letting players and staff go home for Christmas probably contributed to the COVID protocol issue.

It was probably a good call for morale and the SJSU AD budget, but probably did leave them more vulnerable to COVID and the COVID protocols.

Today's paper implied that the suspensions were not Covid-related, or not all Covid-related. Strange, as there does not seem to be any other reasonable cause. But 2 coordinators and 5 starters is a lot to overcome.
SJSU ran a great gauntlet - too bad it ended in this fashion. But on the bright side, their starting QB is coming back next season.

SJSU's best defensive player - and MWC DPOY - DL Cade Hall apparently didn't play.
It was such a travesty for SJSU to play that game with such a shell of their team.
A lot like Florida's second string against Oklahoma.

So is the HC. Who is the son of a fraternity bro of mine (Steve Brennan, who died a few years ago). And Stanford fans should be thankful the Sparts aren't on the "21 schedule. At least not yet...
