MBB vs Memphis - BobK - 11-27-2022

No offense at all until Moss enters and hits two threes. Down 25-20 at the half
Yes Moss :)

Ignoring the fact that we can’t shoot threes today, the quickness differential is— especially on the perimeter — is killing us

RE: MBB vs Memphis - needle - 11-27-2022

Memphis also is a poor shooting team. Stanford playing really good defense.

Is Moss really a shooter? If so, give him some run in this second half. We’ve seen MOC throw the ball away and Silva really struggle handling the ball.

Because you don’t win games shooting the three as poorly as Stanford has.

RE: MBB vs Memphis - magnus - 11-27-2022

With 6:41 left in the 2nd half,  down 36-43.

Actually shooting better from 3 (29%) than 2 (25%)

Let's see a late run!

(Correction, under 20% from 2 as the 25% was total fg%)

Will we break 50?

The answer is

Can we get a two-for-one special on new coaches?

Didn't quite get there. Lose 56-48..
Is there any reason at all to be optimistic about our chances when we start Pac-12 play? Somebody convince me there is.

Don't understand why you wouldn't even try Moss, especially after he hit 2 threes to essentially keep us in the game in the first half.  Everyone else looked scared to shoot.  Haase didn't even bother to play a guard at the end of the game, our PG's were so bad.

What do you mean "today"? No need for that superfluous qualifier.

By the way, in losing to Memphis today, we shot a rousing 29% from the field, sunk 30% from deep, converted 66% of our FTs, had 10 assists, and 15 (!!!) turnovers. I'm looking forward to another season of SU basketball mediocrity, another .500 record, no Dance, and Haase being full of optimistic cliches and no clever game plans.

That's what I was afraid of.

I'm afraid I have to agree with your prognosis.  And continue to be baffled, similar to our football, as to how can recruit so well, and so underperform, underdeliver, during the season? The recruiting seems so promising, and the resulting play so disappointing.

RE: MBB vs Memphis - needle - 11-28-2022

Yeah, I think Stanford has played four teams with legit NCAA tourney hopes, and I’m pretty sure Stanford has not had the lead for one second in the second half of any of those four games.

RE: MBB vs Memphis - SkiBum80 - 11-28-2022

Further to my just prior comment about underperforming our recruiting,
Here's how our recruiting out-performed 3 of our competitors so far this season,
and yet we found a creative way to lose the actual games to all 3:

Recruiting ranking per 247 Sports
Year  Stanford  Wisconsin  SDSU  OleMiss
2020    18            34          80       69
2021    21            33         100      34
2022    50           105          62      25
 Avg     30            57           81      43

All 3 of those opponents have at least 4 transfers in their rotation. A lot of opponents' players from these classes don't even play there anymore, as they were "pushed out" to make way for transfers.

Good point.
Looking at the contributions from transfers, SDSU and Ole Miss getting a lot, but Wisc not so much as most their contribution seems to be from recruits, like us.
And yet our 10 point game loss.
