Stanford golf at the US Open -

Today was final qualifying for the US Open which will be next week at Los Angeles Country Club. Advancing was about as hard as getting into Stanford. Example - 67 players for 4 spots at one site. 60 players for 4 spots at another.
4 Stanford golfers made it - Patrick Rodgers, Michael Thorbjornsen, Karl Vilips and Barclay Brown. Brown was looking at a playoff for the final spots at his qualifying site until he birdied his 36th and final hole of the day to make it. As far as I can tell, Joseph Bramlett is the only current player or alum who played today and did not advance.
Edit - Alex Yang grabbed one of the last spots by finishing top 2 at Tacoma G&CC! Looks like he shot 32 (-4) on his final 9 holes to make it. So 5 Stanford golfers in the US Open field.

I wonder how much longer Maverick McNealy will be playing professional golf. He won the Haskins award in 2015, played in the U. S. Open in 2014 and 2017 but since then has only made the PGA championship among the majors (and finished 75th).

Mick, I understand Maverick has gone through some difficult injuries this season, but he is still in decent position to make the FedEx Cup, and should pretty easily retain his PGA Tour card for next year. He may not be competing for majors, nor winning tournaments, but he has made almost $10 million in his career. Similar career so far to Patrick Rodgers, but both have been far from failures on tour.

Also, five current and recent former Stanford women qualified for the US Women's Open at Pebble Beach:
Andrea Lee
Rose Zhang
Aline Krauter
Sadie Englemann
Kelly Xu
Rachel Heck - Alternate
Great to see Heck's name on this list in particular. We will be going to Pebble on either Thursday or Friday to cheer on all six of our Cardinal ladies.

I was unclear. I didn't mean that he wasn't good enough to play on the tour, clearly he is. after $7.5 mms. in earnings and making the cut in 77 of 111 events. But I know that he also considered a business career, and he's well positioned to take advantage of that if he wants to. Between the comparative lack of success over the past five years (compared to his accolades and successes from 2015 - 2017) and the accumulating injuries,
and his post-Stanford business potential, I'm just wondering aloud if he wants to continue to stick it out. He has options that virtually no other PGA golfer has.

McNealy has been battling a shoulder injury all year, so I'm just going to write off this year's results being any indication of a decline. Looking at last year, he finished second at Silverado, had four Top 10s and nine Top 25s. He only missed 5 cuts in 27 events and finished in the Top 40 of the FedEx Cup standings. That's a pretty outstanding season. Assuming he can get fully healthy, I expect him to return to that kind of form in 2024.
Also important to note that the criteria for keeping full tour status have changed. As of the end of the "regular season" (prior to FedEx Cup playoffs), only the Top 70 are guaranteed full tour status. There will be a "fall season" after the playoffs, and only the top 125 after that fall season keep their status. Spots 126-150 get conditional status, which means they only get into tournaments when they aren't full from top 125 players and other sponsor exemptions, etc.
