Today was final qualifying for the US Open which will be next week at Los Angeles Country Club. Advancing was about as hard as getting into Stanford. Example - 67 players for 4 spots at one site. 60 players for 4 spots at another.

4 Stanford golfers made it - Patrick Rodgers, Michael Thorbjornsen, Karl Vilips and Barclay Brown. Brown was looking at a playoff for the final spots at his qualifying site until he birdied his 36th and final hole of the day to make it. As far as I can tell, Joseph Bramlett is the only current player or alum who played today and did not advance.

Edit - Alex Yang grabbed one of the last spots by finishing top 2 at Tacoma G&CC! Looks like he shot 32 (-4) on his final 9 holes to make it. So 5 Stanford golfers in the US Open field.

Between the comparative lack of success over the past five years (compared to his accolades and successes from 2015 - 2017) and the accumulating injuries, and his post-Stanford business potential, I'm just wondering aloud if he wants to continue to stick it out. He has options that virtually no other PGA golfer has.

McNealy has been battling a shoulder injury all year, so I'm just going to write off this year's results being any indication of a decline. Looking at last year, he finished second at Silverado, had four Top 10s and nine Top 25s. He only missed 5 cuts in 27 events and finished in the Top 40 of the FedEx Cup standings. That's a pretty outstanding season. Assuming he can get fully healthy, I expect him to return to that kind of form in 2024.

Also important to note that the criteria for keeping full tour status have changed. As of the end of the "regular season" (prior to FedEx Cup playoffs), only the Top 70 are guaranteed full tour status. There will be a "fall season" after the playoffs, and only the top 125 after that fall season keep their status.
