Track and Field World Championships - 82 Card - 08-22-2023

Valerie Allman (Stanford 2017) picked up a silver in women's discus. She had the lead until it got eclipsed by her US teammate Laulauga Tausaga-Collins on the fifth throw. According to the announcers, these were the first gold and silver for the US in this event.

Tough luck for Allman. She threw ~ 7 feet short of her personal best. And I think the same thing happened at the 2022 Worlds where Allman got bronze - the gold medalist came out of nowhere and threw their lifetime best. But Allman is still the reigning Olympic champion.

The winner threw her best by about 12 feet

So bummed that Udodi Onwuzurike wasn't able to compete due to injury. As much as I talk about Stanford football he's my favorite current Stanford athlete.
