He's won the Voldemort but USC hasn't done much on the national stage.  Nor do I expect them to once they are in the Big 10 or even this season.  He'll be a forgotten relic like the many ex-OU QBs (cue Baker and soon Kyler).

It's just USC being USC. Nothing about USC makes me weepy. In fact, I think its good to be getting distance from them.

Agree with the sentiment but not the statement.

On CW, he’s the real deal. Only he can get on the way of himself (which granted would not be a first for a USC star), but I don’t think he’ll fade away.

On the Big10, why do people have this mythical fear of the B10? It’s a very mediocre conference after the top 1 or lately 2, but I  think even the top would have played third fiddle to the SEC or the current top of our dying conference.

USC has always been and will always be the epitome of everything wrong with society.

Flash over substance. Cheating and corruption. Arrogance and hubris. 

Clay Helton brought a certain humility and class to the football program, but now with NIL unleashed, there are no restrictions on USC's worst impulses and it will eat itself alive like it always has in the past.

The way U$C approaches football compared to the way Stanford approaches it means the Condoms are usually going to have the advantage,
The bright side is that makes it more fun when we do win.
Of course, that may be history with the new conference alignment. Wonder if we are going to ever schedule them as an OOC game. With the short travel distance and the good crowds it draws I would think it would be a money maker. I would assume it would also get a good TV slot.

IMO, all his talk about his 'bringing a winning vibe' is a crock. Radically improved coaching, more experienced players, good recruiting, and number and quality of portal transfers (like Austin Jones) were much more important factors.

Here's the thing about USC:  they know what they are and they're comfortable in their own skin and they're not just comfortable right now, they are perpetually orgasmic. They wallow in Big-Boy Football and raise their collective middle finger to the rest of the Directors Cup world saying, "We Are A Football School, we're all in, and it sure as sh!t didn't take our new guy long put a Trojan-logo dent in the New World Order. Instead of trying to be everybody's everything, like some schools we know. We Are Football. We Are SC".  Seems like a brand that probably resonates pretty well on the recruiting trail. We'll see. But don't sell them short.

I have none of the ill will toward USC many here do and in some ways admire and am entertained by them, but just as an analytical matter I think it is premature to think USC is ascendant and especially to think they have arrived. Having the #5 team in the country is nothing special for them. They are playing for championships, or at least playoffs, and it’s not yet clear they have the defense to get them there. That this has been a long-running and well-known Achilles heel for Riley and Grinch makes it an even more poignant question. We’ll see what this year looks like, but by USC standards I’m not sure it will answer the mail. How they played against San Jose State and Nevada isn’t getting into the playoffs.

As far as how the football uber alles mentality sells on the recruiting trail, based on my large sample of one you are correct. I was talking to a dad whose son chose Notre Dame over Stanford. He said that at Notre Dame football was #1. At Stanford it was just another sport.
