I don't like this. There's no upside for us in playing Fresno State.

Not a fan either, but our OOC presumably will be mostly CA and west coast to balance out our east coast conference games.

Unclear if SC or UCLA would be available or desired OOC opponents in near term. Oregon and UW too for that matter.

So I imagine we'll be having a lot of Fresno, SDSU, SJSU etc as OOC.

Well, in 2028 it will be 100 years since the last time we played Fresno State. They are one of only 7 FBS teams left in the state.  We should play them once in a while.  Though I'm surprised that we agreed to a home-and-home.

Starting in 2027, Fresno State is scheduling annual home games against Power 5 schools. It has also scheduled a home and away series with UCLA.

They are likely looking for bigger paydays for an away only one-off game.

Lots of upside - games are in the Pacific time zone, we could drive to watch, they can drive to watch, and people, mostly from Fresno, will actually be watching Stanford football, which is not the case at present. Also, Stanford won't be dropping a game against an FCS opponent.

Another downside to joining the ACC is that if Stanford is sane, all OOC games will most likely be on the west coast. So, no cool opponents like Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin, etc.

Probably put a lot of Fresno fans in the seats. FSU averaged more than 39k fans and sold 18,000+ season tickets this season and have (I think) the highest home attendance among Group of Five teams. Their smallest home crowd was their opener against Cal-Poly SLO, 36k.

That's the only upside I can think of, that they travel well and the stands would look full. Might as well have have a "home" football season of SJSU, FSU, Notre Dame, USC, UCLA and Cal.
