Stanford vs ASU -

Half time at Maples and the Card are up by 9. One of the inhouse commentators said he sees a team with size and skill, but they don't play with enuf of a sense of urgency. Duh.
Meanwhile its same as it ever was. e.g. they are ahead by 9, Keefe comes in and they drop 5, Keefe goes out and they gain the 5 back.

Angel having good game
Cards with 11 assists & only 4 TO’s at 15 min to go
Was Haase replaced & I missed it?!
As well as we've played we could still lose this thing.
(9 min to go and only 3 point lead)

Was going to say that, "Nope, same ol', same ol'," as ASU pulled to within three, but Stanford back up by 8.
Nope. Different team, maybe. But same coach, same result.

We led the whole game until 30 sec's left and then they went ahead.
Even the announcers said Stanford has better players.
But it doesn't matter in the end.

Terrible loss. And nobody is surprised. They did almost nothing right the last 5 minutes including missing the front end of 3 one and ones. Michael Jones needed to be not on the floor in crunch time.

So same as it ever was. Two or three TOs and a blocked shot on Stanford's last possessions. S Jones looked exhausted to me but he was in the middle of all of them, like they were counting on him but he was too tired. Last shot was Michael Jones with a 3 and he was blocked. Yikes!

Ridiculous. If anyone deserves to get fired on the tarmac (or at least the parking lot) it has to be Haase. I'm pretty patient about firing coaches but this is years overdue. I'll write to Muir but have little faith that it will matter.
Cheers,
Pete F.

I feel sorry for the loyal season ticket holders that waste their days watching that coach. If they really love basketball they would have been better off going to Haas and watching Coach VanDerveer's squad.
As an added bonus if they got there early enough they might have witnessed Coach Madsen discuss basketball with Coach VanDerveer. The would've, could've, should've stuff was hard for me to ignore when they broadcasted that interaction, and now it is literally painful to recall as we experienced another Haase team meltdown.

We just had a sudden attack of competency. Unfortunately we got over it as the game wound down.

This game was so typical of so many Haase coached games over the years. No business losing the game yet we did. What do we want to see the rest of the year? I want Haase gone. I do feel for the players many of whom are talented. This program needs a major reset. Look at the crowds in Maples when they play.

The worst part of this year is that this might be Haase's most talented team to date. Raynaud, Angel, both Jones, Bynum are all quality players. The two freshmen are going to be good (really impressed by Carlyle so far).
And yet haase's teams never ever play as well together as you'd expect based on their individual abilities. It's the same story every year.

Most of all I feel sorry for the kids who came to Stanford hoping to achieve something on the hardwood court that hasn't happened for years now, and it is now obvious it won't happen this year. Time for a mid year replacement to try and save the talent we have.

Did they say Stanford has better coaches? Not if they seek to be credible!

Of one thing we can be sure: if Madsen was our coach, Stanford would not play with a lack of urgency!
Not offering Mark Madsen Stanford's men's basketball head coaching position is unfathomable and unforgivable on Muir's part. Mark was one of the all-time Stanford greats, has the requisite NBA pedigree, does everything with intensity and enthusiasm, and will recruit excellently because he is smart and makes a fabulous impression on players and their parents. As is clear by now, we are about to have another roughly .500 year, no Dance, and early exit from the Pac-12 tournament. SCANDALOUS AND OUTRAGEOUS!

I agree this is a very talented team. And yet under Haase the sum is less than the addition of the parts.
I think a very telling symbol of Haase's teams, AZ St had a player that had scored 0 for everything in prior 2 games, and then was scoring 12 pts and counting against us at the time it was noticed in the game. We have an undesirable ability to bring out the best in the other teams.

So talented they missed out on 6 points by missing the front end of three one on ones
Despite that poor coaching again
In my Stanford fan life stanford has had 6 head coaches. Howie ok until he wasn’t. DiBisso terrible. Davis iffy with his I demand Monk. Monty so outstanding awesome years Johnson couldn’t wait to leave Dawkins better than some which sadly didn’t mean much, Haase we all know
Hiring is a real crap shoot something to keep in mind

Is that supposed to be an argument for not making a change? Even if hiring a new coach is (something of) a "crapshoot," it's hard to believe that a thoughtful and comprehensive (or even wide-ranging) search would yield someone WORSE than the incumbent. It's worth making a serious effort to find a better coach for the players. I doubt that Muir will launch such a search.

I've written to Muir fire Haase twice in the last two years. How's that.
Yes we have hired worse, DiBasso for sure. Of course their would be a wide search Geesh

With our recent history, 1 NCAA tourney appearance in 16 seasons, the cupboard with regard to talent and the roster isn't completely empty, but it's going to take a major rebuild and culture change. There is major apathy within the MBB fan base and for good reason, not a lot to be excited about.
I don't know that too many big name coaches would be interested in rebuilding at Stanford. We have our challenges with NIL and the portal and everything else people like to use against us.
That being said, there's got to be a high quality candidate out there interested in all we have to offer and ready for the challenge. We just need to go find him. Muir can take full responsibility for Haase not working out as planned as he hired him. Do I think he intents to make the same mistake again? I hope not. I hope we spend the money and commit the resources to find the right the person (if this is Haase's last season).

There seems to be major apathy in the AD office too.
