MBB at UDub Thurs 6 pm - SkiBum80 - 02-14-2024

Looks to be on ESPN2.
So not the usual Pac12/Sling scheduling confusion to worry about.
Just our usual on-court confusion.

If the season is a gauntlet, this begins the gauntlet within the gauntlet.
Last 7 games of reg season, 5 of the 7 on the road! Ugh! (woulda/coulda/shoulda won more home games, a must for success in the Pac12)
But based simply on to-date conference records, we "should" win at least 4 of them.
Of course, that projection, and $5, buys you a coffee at Starbucks.
I really like this team.
I'd really like to see them finish strong and carry it into some kind of post Pac12 championships postseason.
Even if not "the" Dance, then "a" Dance, as in the party to be held in Indianapolis, would still be an accomplishment.

But all of that begins tomorrow where being ready, raring and resolute is necessary if dreams of dancing are to come true.

After seconds and seconds of detailed research and analysis I think I've finally cracked the code to the random wins and losses that happen to Stanford men's basketball under the direction of JH. The USC game went as I predicted, but I didn't alert the community in time. Now I'm offering everyone my prediction on the game tonight ahead of time so you can get your bets in!

Even though Washington is favored to win by 4.5 points and has a 76% just to win the game per ESPN https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/game/_/gameId/401607458/stanford-washington

I'm predicting Stanford to win by a solid 4 points. I'll even go as far and predict Stanford will lead most of the game in the 8-10 point range. I hope everyone can sit back and watch the shekels roll in.

Must have been a great halftime speech by Haase. Not

RE: MBB at UDub Thurs 6 pm - JohnR34231 - 02-15-2024

Game was close throughout the first half. Unfortunately Washington has dominated the 2nd and opened up a 16 point lead.

RE: MBB at UDub Thurs 6 pm - chrisk - 02-15-2024

Blowout by the 10th place team.

Johnson scoring at will.

What an awful 2nd half. We very well may lose every remaining game.
Washington State, Oregon, Utah, Colorado, Cal. It ain’t getting any easier.

I hate it for the players but whatever it takes for Haase to be gone in 4 weeks.

Ohio State’s coach is available now.

RE: MBB at UDub Thurs 6 pm - needle - 02-15-2024

This version of Stanford basketball ranked 288th in turnovers per game before tonight, making good team rankings in assists per game (13th nationally) and three-point percentage (7th nationally) pretty much meaningless.

Defense is poor in every category.

I think Coach Haase will lead them to The Dance
No, Sorry, I mean A dance
The dance that goes like this:
2 steps forward,
2 steps back,
Do si do yourself
End up where you started

Another smack-down loss, this one to UDub, not exactly a powerhouse. As I posted over a month ago, it’s yet another .500 season, early elim from the PAC-12 tournament and no Dance. I don’t know why I should care about Stanford men’s basketball under Hasse and Muir anymore.

I care because I really like some of the players a lot and because of a stubborn remembrance of what Stanford basketball has been.
But further to your comment, for many years it seems like for every brilliant win, there's soon a stinky loss that quickly tarnishes any hope of playing into the postseason.

Undoubtedly true! It's hard to figure out what explains this maddening pattern.

I'm not sure why everyone is having such a tough time figuring out what happened here.  When we beat UW 90-80 about a month ago at Stanford, Spencer Jones played 32 minutes, shot 10-17 [with 8-12 from the three-point line] and scored 30 points.  Last night, when we lost by 20 points, Spencer Jones played 28 minutes, shot 1-6 [with 0-3 from the three-point line] and scored 2 points. That's a 30 point differential in the scoring margin [+10 to -20] with a 28-point differential in Jones' points.

Seems pretty clear to me...

RE: MBB at UDub Thurs 6 pm - Sam Leopold - 02-16-2024

I was there.  Stanford was actually competitive for the whole first half, and on the last possession had Koren Johnson backed into a blind alley.  Then he hit that heavily contested 3 and you could feel the vibes swing.  When the team went toward the locker room they looked dispirited.  The combo attack that ensued to start the second half was predictable.

Having gone back and seen the highlights of the USC game last Saturday, setting the school record for made 3's was great, but that game had the feel of an NBA All-Star Game.  USC had just lost a hard-fought OT game with an elevated atmosphere at Cal and it was just for several minutes that they were able to stay in our game before rolling over.

WSU tomorrow is going to be fun.  The Cougs rocked Cal last night, have their first NCAA tourney berth in 16 years within reach and it's difficult to envision them #$%^*&! this game up.  Then again, if there are late-season games Stanford has gotten up for, this is the kind that fits that profile so it could well be close down the stretch.
