Darn.

We were so lucky to have her come along.

Seems like she was barely here.

Happy for her. She did plenty for Stanford.

Sux for us for the immediate future following the conclusion of this year. Not the time for a prolonged discussion but I'm thinking Kiki, Brooke, Elena, Chloe, and Talana start next year.

Nunu and Ogden could also challenge to replace Brink and Jump.

Happy for Cam. I think landing in Los Angeles, where the minutes and opportunity exist as well as staying on the West Coast is too good to pass up. She's gone from Beaverton to Palo Alto and now to Los Angeles, what a great path for her and her family.

RE: Brink declaring for WNBA draft - Maple Leaf - 03-12-2024

Wish her the best, she is a great representative for not only Stanford Women's Basketball, but much much more.

What an absolute joy it's been to watch her play. She's represented Stanford incredibly well. Wish her nothing but the best.

Although I would have loved to see her come back, I do dislike the situations when some kids are in school for what feels like forever (5 or 6 years). She is ready for the next step in her career and I don't blame her one bit for moving on. I also think beig drafted to LA was too enticing to pass up. If it was Uncasville CT, she might have had a different answer.

Agreed with everyone's comments. As Tara said in this ESPN article that was on their front page earlier today, "She worked hard to improve each and every year, helped us win a national championship, and has a lengthy list of very well-deserved awards and accomplishments. Simply put, she'll go down as one of the best in program history."

And I agree - LA is an excellent fit for her in terms of location and culture, though the Sparks have a ton of quality bigs between Chiney, Hamby, Stevens, and Billings. I think there's a chance she might have stayed another year if Clark had not declared, because I can't see her dying to go to Indiana and she'd be an even worse fit alongside Boston and Smith. But LA is an extremely viable west coast option, so it'll be interesting to see how she'll fit onto a roster where the needs are clearly more in the guard and wing positions.

Brink more than deserves every accolade, and she deserves our gratitude for giving us four years of beautiful and exciting basketball.  From what I can tell from a fan's vantage-point, Brink is a superb person in more ways than just basketball, and I am sure she will have great success on and off the court.

While I am happy for Brink, I am sad for me as a fan.  I have zero interest in the WNBA, and so when our players graduate it creates a very abrupt break for me.  A bittersweet feeling.

Brink's departure will mark the complete turnover of the team since the national championship.  Her classmates Emma-Nnopu and Van Gytenbeek, like Brink, could have been back for a fifth year--but they transferred, and Jump is out of eligibility.  Another transition.

RE: Brink declaring for WNBA draft - BobK - 03-13-2024

Emma-Nnopu graduated last June and is presently a grad student at TCU.

Cam is easy to like and will be hard to replace. She has so many qualities to celebrate. In my opinion, her greatest gift is her humility! She turned this team around this year. She assumed her role as a leader, yet always acknowledged the coaches and the coaches' authority. She was CLASS in every way.
I will miss that flashing smile, her roar after a block, and the kiss on the forehead she playfully gave her teammates. She was generous and clearly celebrated her teammate's accomplishments.
We were honored to watch her talent develop over her four years at Stanford, her leadership and unselfish play, plus her genuine love of her teammates, coaches, and fans! Now it’s our turn to show her the gratitude for the years of dedicated play she gave us, and wish her the very best in her future endeavors!
We love you Cam!

It is obviously Cameron Brink's right to enter the WNBA draft if she sees fit to do so. However, I believe that the  desirability of herr doing so at this juncture is open to question.

IMO, Brink is ready NOW to play good, fruitful D (including blocking and rebounding) in the WNBA. But, at this juncture, there are two things that I believe she still needs to develop to be able to make an impact on O in the pros, things that she could have focused on if she had stayed for her senior year at Stanford.

1. She needs to become a lot stronger if she's not going to be easily pushed around by other bigs; She may have trouble gaining and maintaining position in the low block.

2. She needs a reliable jump shot or hook to use within 6-8 feet of the basket. If you look at how Brink has scored her points when she's in the low post, she usually relies on taking a dribble or two, culminating in a quick, often contorted spin-move layup, frequently while losing her balance or falling to the floor (either from contact or to draw an "and 1." foul shot). I believe it would make Brink a much more potent and effective offensive force in the pros if she had a reliable turnaround jumper (like Iriafin's) or hook shot in her arsenal. (Yes, her emerging three-point shot should help her if she winds up as a 4.)

Best of luck to CB for great success in the pro game. She clearly had a fabulous three-year career at Stanford.

Plus she is strong. Yes thin but strong

Brink is finishing up her 4th season for Stanford. She is a Senior and on track to graduate in June. What she is foregoing is the option to stay a student athlete for an additional 5th COVID bonus year.

Thanks for your definitive declaration that Cam is "strong."
To assert that she was weak or even 'not strong' would have been ridiculous in the extreme.
What I wrote was that she "needs to become a lot stronger" to be successful offensively in the WNBA.

Almost every male and female player could afford to get stronger when transitioning to the pros. That said for Cam I think working on the midrange and 3 pt shooting will be more important. Her special abilities - especially her mobility - I think make her a better 4 in the pros then a 5 grinding against Jones and Griner and Boston game after game.

Obviously, almost all of them "could afford to get stronger." My claim, however, was different (and stronger :)). I wrote that CB "needs to become a lot stronger" to avoid being easily pushed around in the battle for position against players she will encounter in the 4 or 5 position in the WNBA.
