Tommy Edman - NLCS MVP! - Nobadeer - 10-20-2024

We've been posting about the MLB playoffs on the "Stanford Baseball" thread, but when you win the MVP award, that deserves its own thread. Dodgers win the NL pennant, and Tommy Edman is the NLCS MVP!

In the clinching game 6, Edman drove in the Dodgers' first 4 runs with a 2-run double and then a 2-run homer. For the series, he hit .407 with 11 hits, 4 XBH, 11 RBI, 5 runs scored. Played SS, 2B, CF. And, apparently the first player with 11 hits and 11 RBI in an LCS since Big Papi.

Wow. Just wow. Saw him in many games at Stanford.

Pretty happy for him. Glad he’s recovered and thriving in October (unlike St Louis)!

But .... a Dodger.

Edman with a HR in game 2 of World Series

RE: Tommy Edman - NLCS MVP! - Nobadeer - 10-26-2024

Edman played CF tonight. 2 for 4 including the solo homer which gave LA the early 1-0 lead.

In game 1, he played SS and saved a run with a diving stop in the 10th. Then he was on base for the Freeman walk off grand slam homer.

He might be the highest profile LSJU alum in pro team sports right now. At least until CMC is activated off the IR.

RE: Tommy Edman - NLCS MVP! - newguy - 10-26-2024

Shohei has injured his left shoulder trying to steal 2nd base with a 3-run lead.  appeared to be feeling some pain.

RE: Tommy Edman - NLCS MVP! - Nobadeer - 10-29-2024

Edman's scorching hot postseason at the plate has cooled off a bit the past two games. He did score a run in both game 3 last night and game 4 tonight, and made the final play at SS in game 3.

RE: Tommy Edman - NLCS MVP! - Nobadeer - 10-30-2024

Make that Tommy Edman, World Series champion! Per gostanford, he's the first former LSJU player to play in the WS for the champion team since Eric Bruntlett in 2008.

Edman's postseason: 20 hits, 7 XBH, .328 BA, 11 runs, 13 RBI, 5 steals.

In the WS, he hit .294, scored a run in each game.

He also scored the winning run tonight!

Yes, his liner to center that Judge fumbled led to the pivotal 5-run fifth, and his run in the eighth was the difference. He was seemingly always in the middle of it in the LCS and WS.

Hard to watch the Dodgers win the WS (even without Kershaw and with Ohtani playing hurt) but happy for Edman and LSJU.

RE: Tommy Edman - NLCS MVP! - newguy - 10-31-2024

that was exciting.  surprised that the Yankees seemed to lose their concentration in the 5th inning.

Besides being a Cubs' fan, I like the Dodgers.

I'm happy that they won the world series... For Fernando!

I don't watch or follow MLB.  However, for some reason I cannot recall, I watched live the Curt Gibson HR when the Dodgers last won the title.  Then the other night I was tuning in to watch a college football game and they were broadcasting a baseball game.  Just as I tuned in, Freeman hit the walk-off HR in game 1.  From what I've read, those are two of the most epic moments in baseball history.  What are the odds that I saw them both live?

RE: Tommy Edman - NLCS MVP! - BobK - 11-01-2024

Nothing beats Bobby Thompson HR in the 1951 playoffs to beat the Dodgers
The Giants came from 13 games back to tie the Dodgers thus the playoff.

If you’re my age and a Dodgers fan, very high odds. Check this out: https://www.tiktok.com/@dodgers/video/7429944216593222958

P.S. The Dodgers won the title in 2020

I thought that was an exhibition season... Couldn't have been very important. Buster Posey didn't play, and the Giants missed the playoffs by a game in that 60 game season.

I'm for anybody who's playing USC or the NYY.

That's the thing.  I'm not a Dodgers fan or a MLB fan.  I'll bet I've watched less than 10 MLB games in my entire life.  I've watched far more Stanford baseball and softball games.
