Congratulations, Papa John! - george - 11-30-2025

Papa John!  You have earned the respect and admiration of the Cardboard community by placing first in the predictions contest.  Although it might be somewhat of an ignominious achievement: By my math, you only picked Stanford to win two times.  But that's what winners do, they make the tough calls :D.

Honorable mentions to Giants (2nd place) and bl82 (3rd).

Papa John also got the highest number of correct picks overall (10 / 12, missing the BC and FSU wins). In terms of correct overall picks, Giants and KartyFan were tied for 2nd with 9/12 correct picks.

But given this is the cardboard, I'd like to celebrate the true super fans -- those that picked Stanford to win every time they played.  Here you are, you absolute legends:

Also, pefloresjr, you only picked one time against the good guys, and it was for San Jose State?  Rough that you got the L for your efforts.

Another season and another predictions contest in the books.  Please let me know if we want any changes / updates to the format for next year.

RE: Congratulations, Papa John! - KartyFan - 11-30-2025

Thank you George for all the time and effort to make this happen!

I think this format works just fine, but for the sake of throwing out ideas, there used to be an all-Pac-10 predictions pool that awarded points per game as follows:

10 points for picking correct winner

Up to 10 points for margin of victory (if you pick a 1-point loss for Stanford and it's a 2-point win, you get 10 - 3 = 7 points)

Up to 10 points for Stanford score (same formula as above)

Up to 10 points for opponent score

10 point bonus for picking exact game score (or exact spread if desired)

I liked that this format rewarded picking the spread even if total points were off. And it was nice to have a fixed point value per game that was pretty intuitive to follow. You knew the maximum score was 50 points.

Thanks george :)  A weekly labor of love during football season is no small task, and we appreciate all that you did to buoy our spirits in this trying season.  May we have happier seasons ahead and joyous predictions!

The nickname game is amazing, imo.  We are a witty, creative bunch.

It was my first year participating in the contest. Thanks for putting it together.

Thank you, George!

With apologies to Sally Fields, I can't deny the fact that you kind of like me. Right now. You kind of like me!

Well done, Papa John!

Also, yes - thanks for shepherding this through the season, George.  Making predictions and checking out nick names were all too often more entertaining than the actual games - here's to hopefully better days ahead.

A fan winning their team's football score prediction contest in a losing season is no badge of honor.

Hmm, if you want to spice up the contest a little bit, maybe offer bonus points for “best nickname”?  Then again just because something is fun doesn’t mean you have to make a contest out of it.
