FWIW, this shared link estimates what each of 68 schools are spending. Obviously, the reliability of these numbers is unknown but is at least grounded in a uniform methodology.

In short, by and large, the best teams have the deepest pockets. To brag about having the "best football team" seems to effectively means that one is bragging about one's team having spent the most to assemble its roster. What a pathetic joke. This anarchic NIL nonsense is torpedoing the admirable old idea of heartily rooting for one's team. When it comes to blaming someone for not having a good team, it would seem that it's the fundraisers who should be the target of fans' ire. Ridiculous.

So, assuming that Mandel's figures for SU and Duke are accurate, looking at their respective financial investments in football, which school's folks who dole out the school's NIL money look far and away superior to the other's? Duh.

I take the estimates with a grain of salt as I think the error bars around each one are probably pretty large.

Duke probably spends a lot more on men's basketball than Stanford does so that could help account for any difference in football spend
