Yes, even though we are a HomeDog. 
Loser takes the Cellar in the ACC at 1-3. 
Nowhere to go but up.  
Losing to GTEC enters Walt Harris levels of futility... a deeper slide than 3-9.  

Seeing a few video clips, the YJ Defense is weak, particularly against the run. 
Mercer (FCS) put up 300 yards on GTEC.
And their secondary looks lost; they do not tackle

Last year I would have been confident.  Before the first three games this year, somewhat confident. Now, who knows?  As someone on one of the Tech sites said, paraphrasing: How on earth did the Stanford game become existential to the season?

Mostly hoping this isn't some doppelganger event to that 1986 Braves-Giants game I went to while in grad school. But I did get a Croix as two teams trying to lose their 101st game battled into extras. And it was cold.

Bunch of friends from undergraduate days are out for the game, extending to see the sites, so I'll have fun either way. I cannot by law wear red to a Tech game, so going all GT with the gear. Look for the guy wearing a Navy Sprint Football cap.

Brent Key on his impressions of Stanford and Tavita who lost his starting position to 'some guy that works there now, I think.'

Seems appropriate that the CardBoard consensus (right now) for this game is a tie (22-22).
Which can't happen.
So the Board is wrong no matter who wins.
Reminds me of being on the losing end of Heads I Win, Tails You Lose.

Last week I had the Cardinal winning running away against the Boo Devils.  Wrong as it turned out; but what do I know.  So, I'm going to do it again with the Cardinal trouncing la avispa amarilla 31 to 17.

Why not?  Winning the prediction game in a losing season is a loser's proposition.  I'll be happy to see my name at the bottom of the list through my cardinal colored glasses.

Story behind la avispa amarilla since I know all y'all are dying to know. (Southern plural and I've never kicked that habit.)  

Originally the Yellow Jackets were just that. Chaquetas amarillas. Outer wear. Yellow. Which is not red. The Yellow Jackets nickname started in the early 1900s when local sports writers used the term to describe Tech fans who attended football games wearing yellow coats and blazers. Coach Voldemort officially adopted the name in 1905 supplanting other nicknames like the Techs, the Blacksmiths, the Engineers and the Golden Tornadoes. 

It wasn't until the early 1970s that anyone thought of using something more fierce than a sharp, garish blazer. Thus entered the aggressive, yellow-and-black stiped wasps often colloquially called "yellow coats". Yellow Jackets are responsible for 72 deaths per year in the U.S. on average and they are doing their best to kill me this year, I have to say. Statistics on bright yellow clothing related deaths are hard to find. Who knows, maybe that is a fiercer mascot. Anyway, thanks to student Judy McNair and her homemade costume unveiled in 1972, fear the bee.

When I started there, there was a movement by officialdom to consolidate the brand around the Ramblin' Reck (as students spell it, with "Wreck" being reserved for Dean Wormer and the Institute's trademark Nazis). Like emulating Auburn with War Eagle and Tigers was some sort of problem. I'm sure my frat brothers who ran the Ramblin' Raft Race on the 'hooch were down with that official brand consolidation but in 1980, Rickie "don't lose that number" Bland received some money from the Student Government Association, went to mascot camp at Virginia Tech, and Buzz was born. Perhaps coincidentally, perhaps not; the Rambin' Raft Race also died.

I know Buzz will be at the game because I paid $20 to go to some alumni thing in Menlo Park tomorrow night and he's supposed to give me a "free" T-shirt if I'm one of the first hundred in the door.  Doubt the Wreck Reck makes the trip although that would be cool.

Brilliant summary of the history.  I had originally thought of using Chaquetas amarillas, but I was not familar with the history.  I used the pest instead of the jacket.  Maybe I should have used  "casa llena de rincones y recovecos" for the ramblin recks.
