We had 3 100+ yard pass catchers in our studs - Kaden Smith, Trent Irwin and JJ Arcega-Whiteside. That never happens.

I'm saving this quote for the entire bye week.

Hard to say what that means against a "normal" offense. UW instead relied on the run against them. It is hard to say how good their pass defense actually is. For sure, they didn't stack the box as much as SDSU or USC. They played more base than even ND, I think.(10-08-2018, 07:25 AM)SF_Cardinal_Fan Wrote: Much of the passing yardage seemed to happen as Utah deployed a prevent style defense to protect their large lead.
I disagree. For most of the game, Utah was playing in their base defense against our three wide receiver sets, with a safety covering the slot receiver (usually a tight end) and cover 1 up with a safety up top. That safety rotated with the snap, so he wasn't playing "centerfield" to prevent the deep play, moving once the ball was thrown. That they rarely switched into a nickel defense with two deep safeties suggests that they weren't really playing a true prevent.
