She has been playing like one lately, a big upswing from earlier. She has been consistently great, which to me is the mark of a star. Good players can be great in a few games. Great players, stars, do it most games.

Very little to carp about tonight. Thought we played really well. I am frightened of UCLA, though.
Some comments:
Saw Hannah Jump interviewed after the game. She spoke about the things she worked on over the offseason. One thing she didn't mention was weights. Do women lifts weights for basketball? Hannah J. looks SO much stronger--more muscular--to me than last year. Whatever it is, just keep it up, Hannah.
Maybe we should just play Haley Jones in the last two, maybe three quarters. I love her play and the effortlessness of so many of her shots, but it seems like the first three times she touches the ball, it's a turnover. Yet she seems less turnover-prone later in the games. Plus, that seems to be when her shot(s) kicks in.
So, Kiana Williams is something like 18 treys away from Candice Wiggins' career record (277 to 295, I think). That is unbelievable to me. I hold Wiggins in such high esteem, but if the record is within your reach, have at it KW.
Last point: My wife, who has both her graduate and undergraduate degrees from UCB (PLEASE, no derogatories here, anyone!) has become an avid Stanford WBB fan. "C'mon, Kiana. I love Kiana." "Haley makes it look so easy." "Great rebound, Lexie."
What fun to watch the games together. Ones like tonight, with all the excellent play, are particularly enjoyable.

I also think UCLA can be extraordinary now that they are developing more than the two Os. As we found in our second game with them it is getting harder to defend them as the talent around Osborne and Onyenwere develops. We could control those two well enough to win, but when they get scoring from third and fourth players as they have more recently then it becomes a series of 1 on 1 match ups and we don't always win those.
What I want to know is whether senior stars like Onyenwere or our own Williams will come back for a fifth year or take an immediate shot at the pros. The Pac 12 championship next year might hinge on that.

The interview with Agnes Emma-Nnopu was the first time I have heard her speak. Seems like a very well adjusted kid with a lot of potential. She has been working on her passing to the interior (feeding posts) and on her jumpshot. It sounds to me as if there is hope she could eventually take the Anna Wilson slot in the starting lineup, provided these other dimensions of her game develop.

If there is one thing I would like to see one of our players develop, it is for Haley Jones to come up with a 3-pt shot. It doesn't have to be a primary weapon like Hannah Jump's, but should be reliable enough that defenders cannot sag off when she sets up in the perimeter.

Haley Jones made a big jump in FT percentage from 62.7 last year to 78.6 this year. I'm guessing it was a point of emphasis between year one and two. I don't think it's a stretch for a similar increase in three point percentage next year.

My wife went to college in WI and CO. It's taken years but now she's an avid Stanford WBB fan, and we, too, watch all the games and Behind the Benches together. We live near Stanford, so we go to all the games, too. Please do share with your wife how much fun these experiences can be.
